What does a successful Senior Windows Desktop Engineer do at Fiserv?
The End User Computing Operations Desktop Engineer (Windows Focus) is responsible for maintaining and optimizing desktop systems with a primary emphasis on Windows environments, alongside support for macOS and virtual platforms. This role requires deep technical expertise in Windows device management, including tools like Microsoft Intune, Active Directory, and Windows security frameworks. The engineer will provide exceptional technical support, advanced troubleshooting, scripting, and application packaging, with a strong focus on enhancing the Windows end-user computing infrastructure.
What you will do:
- Endpoint Management & Support: Deliver advanced technical support for Windows devices, including hardware, software, and OS troubleshooting. Manage device lifecycle, enforce security policies, and administer endpoint protection tools across Windows and other platforms. Implement endpoint security measures for Windows, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and industry standards.
- Windows Administration: Administer Windows systems, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance. Leverage tools like Microsoft Intune, Group Policy, and Active Directory to manage configurations, policies, and updates.
- Application Management & Packaging: Package and deploy Windows applications using tools like Intune, SCCM, or PowerShell. Ensure timely software updates and patch management across the Windows fleet.
- Identity & Access Management: Integrate Windows endpoints with identity providers (e.g., Azure AD, Okta), enforce security baselines, and manage privileged access using tools like CyberArk EPM.
- Network & Security (Zscaler): Troubleshoot Windows network issues, particularly with Zscaler integration. Implement zero trust access models and ensure secure connectivity. Monitor Windows system performance, identify bottlenecks, and apply optimization strategies to enhance user experience.
- Technical Expertise & Problem-Solving: Possess strong knowledge of Windows, macOS, and virtual platforms. Use tools like Intune, SCCM, and scripting (PowerShell, Python) to automate tasks and resolve complex technical issues.
- Collaboration & Documentation: Work closely with IT, security, and compliance teams. Create and maintain documentation, training materials, and technical guides for Windows support.
- Scripting & Automation: Develop scripts (PowerShell, Python) to automate Windows tasks, manage deployments, and improve operational efficiency.
What you will need to have:
- 5+ years of experience with compliance frameworks and risk management in Windows environments. Partner with IT, security, compliance, and other departments to support business goals.
- 5+ years of proficiency with endpoint security tools, device management platforms (Intune, SCCM), and vulnerability scanners.
- 5+ years of expertise in Windows administration, Intune, Group Policy, and Active Directory. Experience building, deploying, and troubleshooting PCs and mobile equipment in a corporate environment.
- 5+ years of experience with windows and virtual platforms (VMware Horizon, Windows 365). Communicate effectively with stakeholders and users, providing updates and addressing concerns.
- 5+ years of experience with Azure AD/Entra, Office 365, and identity integration. Strong problem-solving, quantitative, and analytical skills.
- 5+ years of strong troubleshooting and scripting skills (PowerShell, Python). Availability to provide on-call support.
- 5+ years of knowledge of network infrastructure, security protocols, and application deployment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science preferred, but an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
