MANTECH seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented
Strategic Communications and Media Analyst to join our team in
Alexandria, VA. As part of this position, you will conduct open-source research and message assessment for a high-profile DoD customer.
The selected individual will review a large volume of information across all news media formats (print, online, television, radio, and social media) on select key words, topics and spokespeople.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Utilize open-source tools to research and analyze traditional and social media content to identify the most breaking and relevant items of interest. Monitor news events such as press briefings, Congressional testimonies, and press interviews with senior leaders. Provide analysis of reaction and follow-on reporting, as well as transcripts.
- Identify breaking, trending, or controversial items of interest and escalate as needed. Monitor trends in media coverage and public perception over time.
- Provide actionable insights for informed decision-making by senior leaders. Assess and measure the impact of messaging and communications efforts; and provide briefs, summary reports, and recommendations for future messaging and outreach.
- Continually update and refine saved search strings and news alert prompts to reflect news topics, client goals and priorities, spokespeople, and key narratives in coverage.
- Package news and social media coverage into news alerts, trending reports, and longer-term analyses, delivered at appropriate intervals for the amount of media activity on a given day (more often than daily if required).
- Assess client messaging effectiveness and make recommendations to leadership on targeting key audiences, influencers, and media outlets to achieve communications objectives. Develop new report topics and formats, media/public engagement opportunities, talking points, and messaging ideas. Apply lessons learned from past media campaigns or outreach tactics.
- Prepare verbal and written briefings, executive summaries, communications assessments, and related products for senior officials. Provide insight into performance of owned social media accounts and suggest innovative ways to deliver engaging content that resonates with key audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in Communications, Journalism, Public Affairs/Relations International Relations, or a related major.
- At least 3 years of experience in media research, social media data gathering, and top-line analysis. This may include a mix of media research, public affairs/public relations work, and national security-related experience.
- Demonstrable knowledge of a wide range of national security or foreign policy news topics.
- Experience monitoring traditional and social media and clear interest in consuming news.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills suited for a high-level audience. Attention to detail is essential.
- Familiarity with complex Boolean methods is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, TVEyes, Talkwalker, Meltwater, Cision, or another social analytics tool.
- Experience using standalone social media platforms including X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
- At least one year in a high-level public affairs environment is preferred.
- Experience using AI driven tools to support strategic communication goals and automate queries preferred
Clearance Requirements
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Active Top Secret security clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI
Physical Requirements
- The person in this position must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
- Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, via email, phone, and or virtual communication, which may involve delivering presentations.
