About the Role
In this role, you will lead and mentor the engineering team that owns Workday’s core communications platform. You will guide your team to design and deliver a highly scalable framework built to handle large volumes of messages across multiple channels. Blending technical leadership with people management, you will drive key decisions, manage project execution, and develop a positive, high-performing environment. Your influence will be critical in shaping the technical roadmap and ensuring the delivery of our services.
About You
You are a hands-on technical leader with a passion for building both high-performing teams and highly scalable software. Your leadership style is grounded in a strong technical foundation, enabling you to guide your team through complex architectural decisions and mentor engineers at all levels of their careers. You are dedicated to fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work.
Your technical background is rooted in building large-scale, distributed systems, ideally within the communications or messaging domain. You understand the unique challenges of delivering millions of messages reliably and can speak about topics like message or transaction deliverability, security protocols, and regulatory compliance. As a leader, you are adept at partnering with product management to influence the roadmap and ensure your team's vision aligns with business goals. You are a problem-solver who champions engineering excellence, develop innovation, and measures your success by the success of your team.
Basic Qualifications:
3+ years of experience building and directly managing impactful engineering teams
8+ years of experience developing software applications
8+ years of experience with design and development using an object-oriented language such as Java, Python, C#, C++, etc.
Bachelor's degree in a computer related field or equivalent work experience
Other Qualifications:
Proven experience in people management with a passion for mentoring engineers, guiding career growth, and fostering an inclusive environment.
Experience leading teams that have built and maintained large-scale, high-throughput systems, preferably within the communications or messaging domain
Strong architectural background with the ability to guide teams in making sound technical trade-offs for scalable, resilient, and well-tested software.
An understanding of the landscape of enterprise communications, including regulatory requirements and security considerations.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with a track record of building partnerships with product management and other cross-functional teams.
Ability to distill technical complexity and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
A collaborative, team-first attitude with a focus on innovation and ownership of team initiatives.
Experience with ERP application development or working within a large-scale enterprise SaaS environment is a plus.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants. Each candidate’s compensation offer will be based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, geography, experience, skills, job duties, and business need, among other things.
