Position Title: Senior Gas Engineer

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer (Mechanical or Petroleum) to join the Fuels Department for the Homer City Pipeline Project (HCPP). This role is ideal for a professional with strong technical and project execution experience in natural gas infrastructure who is looking to transition into a long-term operations engineering role post construction. The selected candidate will support final design, permitting, and construction efforts during the project phase and then assume responsibility for operational performance, reliability, and optimization once the distribution line is commissioned.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Construction Phase
Provide senior level technical guidance during final design reviews and contractor submittals.
Collaborate with permitting consultants, environmental specialists, and other internal teams to ensure regulatory and engineering compliance.
Support construction oversight, startup planning, and interface with key stakeholders including utilities and interconnect partners.
Participate in pressure modeling, risk assessments, and system reliability evaluations.
Assist in the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), commissioning plans, and documentation for turnover to operations.
Operations Phase
Serve as the technical lead for ongoing pipeline and fuel system operations, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance.
Monitor system performance and make engineering recommendations for optimization and maintenance.
Support troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause investigations.
Interface with plant operations and maintenance personnel to develop inspection and preventative maintenance programs.
Lead or assist in future system upgrades, expansions, or operational modifications as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, or related Engineering field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain.
Seven or more years of experience in natural gas systems with a strong foundation in engineering design, construction support, or operations.
Working knowledge of gas distribution systems, pipeline codes and standards, and operational best practices.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, environmental, and operational teams.
Willingness to be involved in long term operations support after project completion.
Preferred Attributes:
Experience with large scale gas distribution projects.
Familiarity with SCADA systems, gas measurement, and pressure regulation.
Background in pipeline commissioning, gas yard operations, or interconnect design.
Commitment to transitioning into a hands on, field engaged operational engineering role.
