Job Summary:
Caterpillar’s Surface Mining and Technology Division is currently seeking a Mining Technology Product Development Senior Design Engineer. As a technology product development Senior Design Engineer, you will be accountable for the design of Mining Technology product hardware. Mining Technology Products are critical components of the mining customer’s production and are required to meet performance expectations to deliver on the value proposition. The primary focus of this role will be to support the design & development of autonomous haul truck components and kits within the Command for Hauling system. The focus of this role is to provide design execution and design team leadership in the support of autonomous haul truck conversion kit development, CPI (Continuous Product Improvement), and maintenance.
What You Will Do:
Responsible to draw support from internal and external suppliers, forming teams, providing design leadership, and may at times represent the technical workstream within the New Product Introduction (NPI) team.
Primary efforts will be focused on ensuring the design meets requirements, guiding the design concept, leading design reviews, reviewing and approving requirements trade-offs, ensuring appropriate design techniques and simulations are applied, and supporting CPI.
Design and validation of components and kits for New Product Introduction (NPI) Programs.
PRIMARY focus on designing electrical, with hydraulics and light fabrications as secondary
Responsible for the maintenance and support of the design.
Support Continuous Product Process Development (CPPD) Team representing MTES and Command for Hauling.
Review and approve design deviations.
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
What You Will Have:
Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum OR equivalent working experience
Light Fabrications and hydraulics skillset
Electrical Skills experience is required
Relevant product design experience.
Must have expertise in Creo parametric

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
