As a Safety Specialist, you'll utilize your knowledge of industrial processes and occupational hazards to support programs and leaders designed to safeguard our associates and contractors. You’ll also manage safety training records, provide training and deliver safety recommendations in collaboration with project teams and Associate Safety. We’ll count on you to have a future forward mindset around occupational safety, maintenance, and building resource acquisition.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborates with Safety Leader, Project Managers, Maintenance Teams, Contractors and Associate Wellbeing and Safety (AWS) on safety initiatives, activities, and project efforts.
Assists Corporate Real Estate (CRE) leaders with safety software implementation efforts within CRE and across other business units. Serves as the primary point of contact for CRE’s internal business partners and technology vendors regarding the management and implementation of safety related software.
Serves as the safety training and records coordinator for Nationwide; including working with representatives from different areas to coordinate safety training requirements.
Assists CRE team with creating safety related work orders by partnering with Process Manager and/or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Manages Nationwide's prescription safety eyewear program and supports other corporate safety efforts including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Supports Engineering team with overall management of Lockout-Tagout procedure development.
Assists with the planning and execution of company's annual emergency evacuation drills.
Analyzes incident reports, metrics, and accident cases to institute changes that lead to a safer environment in conjunction with broader CRE team and AWS.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Consultant, Facilities Safety - Corporate Real Estate.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate or Associates studies in Safety related field.
Experience: Typically, five or more years of demonstrated experience in Project Management, Software Management, Software Implementation, and/or providing administrative or management support for safety, corporate training, industrial, construction, maintenance, or engineering related projects.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven knowledge of project management and organizational skills. Demonstrable knowledge of related health, safety and environmental (e.g. OSHA and EPA) standards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively on multiple projects and across all levels of the organization and suppliers. Possess strong communication skills. Ideal candidates will have an interest in increasing safety related knowledge and environmental health expertise.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Working Conditions: Primarily in a normal office environment with entrance to mechanical, construction and light industrial areas as needed. Up to 20% travel may be required.
