The Industrial Hygiene Laboratory (IHL) within Merck’s Safety Center of Excellence (COE) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Associate Chemist to join our team. In this role, you will support the analysis of industrial hygiene samples using advanced analytical techniques such as LC/UPLC, MS, and ELISA. You’ll contribute to ensuring a safe and compliant workplace by accurately analyzing air and surface samples for a variety of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), both small and large molecules. Responsibilities
• Perform routine analysis of industrial hygiene samples using LC/UPLC, MS, and ELISA techniques.
• Prepare reagents, operate analytical instruments, and analyze air and surface samples for APIs.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records in compliance with ISO 17025 standards and internal SOPs.
• Log and track samples in LIMS and record results in internal databases.
• Monitor and document laboratory equipment performance and environmental checks.
• Maintain inventory and order laboratory reagents, standards, and consumables.
• Coordinate instrument repairs, calibrations, and maintenance as required.
• Ensure all analyses and reports are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Support continuous improvement efforts within the laboratory to enhance efficiency and data quality.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or other related scientific discipline required.
Experience
• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience with HPLC/UPLC.
• Experience using Chromatography Data Systems (e.g., Empower) and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with Teams preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, industrial hygiene, or environmental laboratories preferred.
• Demonstrated adaptability, teamwork, accountability, and innovation.
