Job Summary
The Freight Technician performs functions that support the movement of cargo to/from Moron AB, Spain utilizing Defense Transportation System and commercial carrier procedures. You will execute the daily workload to ensure cargo meets the priority of the customer and timelines established in DoD delivery systems. You will participate in shipping and receiving material IAW established Defense Transportation Regulations and Air Force Instructions. You will utilize shipment data management tools such as CMOS, GATES, and IGC databases to document and track shipments. As a member of a small section, it is necessary that all team members be capable of performing administrative and manual labor tasks associated with cargo movement.
Roles and Responsibilities
Receives inbound cargo from Base Supply, Base Units, or Commercial Carriers, ensures all cargo is properly in-checked
Packages outbound shipments, determines mode of shipment and processes according to shipment priorities
Shall be proficient with shipment planning procedure and documentation for all shipment modes
Accomplishes DD Form 1149, Requisition and Shipping Document; DD Form 1384, Transportation Control and Movement Document; and other forms associated with DOD freight movement.
Documents all shipments in Cargo Operations Movement System (CMOS)
Prepare, submit, & monitor Transportation Discrepancies Reports (TDR’s)
Maintains qualification as Hazardous Material Preparer certifier
Operates automated data processing equipment to prepare, transmit and receive transportation data
Operate various vehicles and material handling equipment to transport/load cargo/equipment as required
Utilizes industrial machinery (saws, drills, automatic wrapping machines, etc.
Ensures building, area and equipment inspections & housekeeping is accomplished
Follows all safety rules and established standards
Perform functions supporting the U.S. Customs Border Clearance program
Basic Qualifications
Possess prior experience working in a DoD cargo/freight section
Shall have two years’ experience classifying freight, preparing bills of lading, maintaining shipping records, planning shipments, and inspecting shipments for adequacy of packing and crating
Must have experience utilizing Cargo Operations Movement System (CMOS)
Possess valid state Driver’s license and ability to operate a forklift
Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance
