About IPSD
Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary:
As the Senior Supplier Development Engineer, you will be responsible for assessing supplier quality, supporting foundry suppliers, working on process improvements, and ensuring that all products are free from defects and comply with manufacturing specifications and legal standards
What You Will Do:
Collaborating with the supplier and Caterpillar Design Engineering teams throughout the APQP processes, PPAP processes, and through the post PPAP component performance and quality.
Serving as a conduit for Caterpillar IPSD Medium Facilities Quality Teams to their supply base located in the United States.
Ensuring the quality of supplies by conducting tests and assessments on incoming supplies to identify any quality issues; Developing supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation mechanism.
Generating reports on supplier quality, by monitoring their defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws; Guiding suppliers to reduce these defect rates
Researching the potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures; Conducting supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organizational and federal policies and standards.
Supporting suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.
Provide Supplier Training on Caterpillar BIQ and Lean Manufacturing aspects and applications.
Degree Requirement
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, with 3+ years of foundry experience working on large or complex castings in operations, engineering, or quality roles.

Production Part Approval Process (PPAP): Expert knowledge of Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP) elements, submissions, and objectives; ability to determine whether a supplier can manufacture products that meet the quality requirements and standards of their customers consistently.
Develops a monitoring system to ensure that PPAP implementation adheres to global standards and internal guidelines.
Establishes internal best practices, guidelines, and procedures for implementing PPAP.
Leads evaluation of accuracy and effectiveness of documented processes versus actual operations.
Monitors industry and other organizations for innovations and emerging applications related to PPAP and product quality control.
Oversees all production projects implementing PPAP for quality control and evaluates their performance; introduces necessary interventions to improve their efficiency.
Promotes the use of emerging tools for implementing PPAP.
Supplier Management - MFG: Extensive Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
Facilitates supplier partnering arrangements that share risk and reward.
Monitors supplier performance; works to resolve discrepancies between performance and agreements.
Develop quality standards and controls for suppliers.
Builds and maintains partnerships with multiple and/or large suppliers.
Evaluates issues and terminates supplier relationships as appropriate; works with legal departments.
Ensures the fulfillment of report and record-keeping requirements

This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
