Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on, creative, and dynamic leader to join our Digital Innovation Team as Senior Manager of Sports Digital Video. This role requires a seasoned storyteller who not only manages but also actively contributes — shooting, writing, producing, and editing compelling sports content across all platforms. The ideal candidate combines strong sports knowledge, management experience, and editorial instincts with a passion for innovation and the ability to think outside the box.
In this role, you will oversee the production of high-quality sports video content for digital, streaming, social, and emerging platforms. You will lead a team of producers and editors while also rolling up your sleeves to execute projects, ensuring content is journalistically sound, visually engaging, and tailored for maximum impact.
The Senior Manager of Sports Digital Video will be part of the Digital Innovation Team, creating content for the NBC Owned Stations Group. The senior manager will oversee breaking sports news, sponsored editorial content, tentpole coverage (Olympics, World Cup) and more. The position will lead the creation and execution of innovative content that can be used across multiple platforms and work closely with our sales leaders to ensure it can be packaged for editorial sponsorships. In addition, the role will oversee other producer/editors on the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead & Manage: Direct and mentor a team of producers and editors, fostering creativity, collaboration, and accountability. Manage multiple projects on varying timelines while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Create & Innovate: Shoot, write, edit, and produce original sports video content optimized for digital platforms including web, social, streaming, and podcasts. Pitch and develop new series and innovative formats.
- Sports Coverage: Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, and analysts; oversee coverage of breaking sports news, tentpole events, and league partnerships.
- Cross-Platform Storytelling: Craft content strategies that maximize reach across platforms by leveraging SEO, social media trends, and platform-specific best practices.
- Collaboration: Work closely with editorial, sales, and league partners to create sponsored and original sports content that resonates with audiences and aligns with brand identity.
- Execution: Manage end-to-end production including field shoots, studio shoots, editing, graphics, and distribution.
- Audience Growth: Stay ahead of sports and digital content trends, delivering creative concepts that engage diverse audiences and drive growth across platforms.
- Best Practices & Training: Establish and share best practices for sports video production across NBC’s owned stations.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
- 5+ years producing and editing video for digital platforms, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- Proven hands-on experience shooting with DSLR/cinema cameras, using lighting and audio equipment, and editing in Adobe Premiere (After Effects and Photoshop a plus).
- Track record of successfully managing a creative team and overseeing multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional editorial judgment and storytelling skills; ability to identify stories with strong digital and social potential.
- Demonstrated creativity in developing outside-the-box content across multiple formats (social-first, short-form, long-form, streaming, podcasts).
- Strong interviewing skills and experience working directly with athletes, analysts, and sports figures.
- Deep knowledge of all sports, with emphasis on the Olympics, Soccer, NBA, NFL, and emerging sports trends.
- Familiarity with SEO strategies, social media analytics, and content optimization.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as sports and news coverage demands

- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, which currently requires contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
