Job Summary:
The Assistant Controller will play a key role in overseeing daily accounting operations, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies. This position works closely with the Controller and other senior leaders to support accurate financial reporting, audits, and continuous process improvements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Prepare daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
· Prepare and distribute the daily Cash Report to senior management.
· Prepare monthly recurring journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and account analysis to support monthly financial reporting.
· Assist the Controller with oversight of daily Accounting Department operations, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable staff.
· Provide support and oversight to the Payroll/Benefits Administrator regarding payroll functions related to accounting.
· Approve vendor setups in the accounting system and ensure 1099 details are complete and accurate.
· Prepare and file 1099-DIV, 1099-NEC, and 1099-MISC forms.
· Prepare W-2 forms and reconcile W-3 to the general ledger.
· Prepare various schedules and reconciliations for audit purposes and respond to audit requests
· Complete special projects assigned by the Controller
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct cross-functional teams in both shore-based and offshore environments.
· Excellent organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to adapt quickly in fast-changing conditions.
· Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, and cost control.
· Ability to interpret technical drawings, engineering specs, and vessel documentation.
· Proficiency with computers and commonly used software (e.g. Microsoft Office, vessel tracking/navigation tools).
· Excellent prioritization, organizational skills, coordination and attention to detail.
· Ability to manage multiple projects requiring disciplined planning.
Education, Experience, Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, CPA Preferred
· 8-15 Years experience
· Strong proficiency in accounting and financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel
· Thorough understanding of GAAP
· Experience with external financial audits and regulatory audits
· Strong leadership skills with the ability to train staff to ensure accounting policies and procedures are adhered to
· Excellent analytical skills
