Job Summary
KBR is seeking a Lead Drafting Technician to join our team and reside at our Las Cruces, NM office. The selected candidate will support projects around ground-based mobile satellite communication systems, antenna manufacturing, and radio frequency engineering. The Lead Drafting Technician to oversee drafting operations and support engineering and manufacturing teams. The ideal candidate will have advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, and Autodesk Vault, with a strong background in mechanical design and document control. This role involves leading drafting efforts, mentoring junior drafters, and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of technical drawings and CAD models. The Lead Drafter collaborates closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to interpret design concepts and translate them into precise CAD drawings.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Develop and revise detailed 2D and 3D drawings using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical, and AutoCAD
· Manage drawing files and data using Autodesk Vault, ensuring proper version control and documentation integrity
· Utilize Fusion 360 to develop CAM toolpaths and machining strategies, working closely with machinists to ensure CNC programs are optimized for efficiency, accuracy, and manufacturability.
· Interpret engineering and design specifications to create precise technical drawings
· Review and approve drawings for compliance with industry standards and project requirements
· Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior drafters and CAD technicians
· Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to resolve design issues and optimize workflows
· Support change management processes and configuration control
· Communicate and collaborate with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing personnel, management, vendors, customers, and subcontractors.
· Abide by company policies, procedures, and AS9100 quality policy
· Must hold a valid driver’s license and have the ability to obtain a US Secret clearance
Basic Qualifications
· High School Diploma and 10 years of related experience.
· Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Vault, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Electrical
· Strong understanding of drafting standards, GD&T, electrical schematics, and mechanical design principles
· Excellent organizational, communication, and team leadership skills
· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
· Must be a U.S. citizen
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with PDM/PLM systems
· Familiarity with ISO and ASME standards
· Knowledge of sheet metal, machining, and fabrication processes
· Basic understanding of Costpoint system and integration with CAD data.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to regularly stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel to observe prototypes and use computer equipment
· Requires good vision ability; dexterity in fingers, hands, arms and legs to move items, carry equipment, and grasp
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds above head
· Able to wear protective equipment in shop or manufacturing areas
· Ability to work outdoors in a variety of climates including desert/dusty conditions and/or humid environments.
· Ability to work in a confined area
· Ability to work outdoors in a wide variety of climates
· Ability to work around moderate noise (i.e. business office, operations shelter equipment, generators)
