The primary purpose for the Sr Mgr-Visual Space Planning is to drive key company initiatives for the total box resulting in positive ROI for Lowe's. High level responsibilities include the ability to analyze data in comparison to space allocation by merchandising division and product category, consistency in layout/presentation, and improving the overall customer experience. This role is also responsible for leading a team of people who will have responsibility in creating these strategic plans down to the details of proper execution and follow up. Strategic cross functional collaboration and
communication plays a key role to the overall success of project planning. Additional responsibilities include managing workflow processes that enables the team to have the time, resources, tools
and information needed to accomplish the set initiatives.
What you will do
Owns the end-to-end visual planning strategy for the Hardlines division, Lowe’s most complex and initiative-heavy merchandising area. Aligns category-specific plans with enterprise transformation efforts, leading holistic visual strategies across dozens of product categories, each with varying seasonality, localization needs, and competitive dynamics.
Leads strategic projects involving new store formats, remodels, remerch efforts, and category expansions, ensuring that visual space planning execution aligns with enterprise priorities and produces measurable ROI.
Defines and governs visual display architecture, planogram adjacency logic, and presentation standards that serve as the foundation for all visual merchandising within the Hardlines division. Ensures standards are flexible enough to support diverse store footprints and customer segments.
Analyzes sales productivity, space performance, customer behavior, and operational metrics to refine layout strategies. Regularly audits current visual execution to ensure consistency, relevance, and effectiveness, and implements iterative improvements based on insights.
Leads proofs-of-concept (POCs), innovation pilots, and new planning methodologies—testing, evaluating, and scaling successful concepts that improve planning speed, customer experience, and merchandising clarity.
Owns team resource modeling using historical production and strategic planning data. Anticipates peak periods, special initiatives, and long-term organizational needs, adjusting capacity and focus to ensure successful execution across workstreams.
Presents project outcomes, visual merchandising KPIs, and strategic planning updates to senior leadership. Synthesizes complex planning narratives into actionable insights to support investment decisions and enterprise strategy.
Leads the core business balancing workload and resources due to leaves of absence, high priority projects or peak planning seasons.
Manages a team of Visual Space Planners responsible for the macro store environment design and planning in support of strategic company initiatives within the complex merchandising division on Hardlines.
Coaches team to leverage sales productivity data, space productivity data, field insight data, presentation architecture/guidelines, store labor cost and competitor strategies to develop product category adjacencies by store.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Architecture, Interior Design, Store Planning, Retail Management, Merchandising, Fashion Merchandising, or related field or equivalent work experience
8-10 years Experience in visual merchandising, store environment planning, or retail strategy
8-10 years Experience in retail environment, store planning and design, merchandising, space/adjacency planning, data analytics, space analytics, cross-functional team/project lead work, program/project lead for complex presentation changes, experience in a role that requires strategy and planning
8-10 years Prior managerial/supervisor experience
8-10 years Experience working for a large retail organization, preferably in Merchandising, Store Planning, or Store Operations
Preferred Skills/Education
8-10 years Strong Business Acumen with an understanding of how store and space optimization can influence results of various functions across the organization
8-10 years Experience executing on project plans in a cross-functional environment
8-10 years Experience with assortment and/or space planning (e.g. categories, products, processes, etc.)
