Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Material Quality Chemicals is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Engineer - Quality.
The primary responsibility of this role is to: (1) ensure highest quality chemical raw materials (paint, oils & fluids, leather/fabric, and resin & plastics) are utilized in our NAP vehicles; (2) and ensure quality assurance activities for raw materials and manufacturing processes used in the production of NA Toyota/Lexus vehicles. You will accomplish this through collaboration with your counterparts in Production Engineering, Material Design, and NAMC Quality Engineering, and Purchasing Supplier Development among others.
Reporting to the Manager – Supply Chain, the person in this role will support the Material Quality Chemicals objective to ensure highest quality chemical materials are utilized in our NA vehicles and to prevent & quickly resolve quality concerns.
What you’ll be doing
Lead/support new material introduction activities including trials and inspection standard development.
Lead/support manufacturing process assessments for paint, oils & fluids, leather & fabric, resin & plastic parts and provide feedback to ensure the highest quality.
Conduct internal audit activities at NAMCs to confirm quality requirements are being met for brake fluid, long life coolant and oils.
Conduct on-site audits at suppliers to identify gaps in their readiness for mass production.
Lead/support supplier development activities, initiatives, and new supplier evaluation.
Lead/support quality assurance activities for related raw materials for pre-production and mass production (includes supplier process audits and part evaluations).
Provide technical support and expertise to related stakeholders (NAMCs, PE, PUR, etc.) for paints, oils & fluids, leather & fabric, resin & plastic parts.
Lead problem solving activities for chemical raw material related quality issues
Lead root cause analysis for chemical material related field issues.
Provide new model coordination and leadership for MQC section.
What you bring
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent professional experience (5+ years)
Prior experience working in the Quality function (corporate quality or NMAC)
Manufacturing or Engineering experience with chemical raw materials and/or quality assurance activities
Manufacturing quality problem solving experience including usage of the 7 QC tools
Exposure to Paint technical issue resolution
Understanding of process and requirements for leading PCR and QPR resolution
Experience with data analytics, data automation, and data visualization (example: experience with SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platform – Power BI, Power Automate, etc.)
Added bonus if you have
Manufacturing process for raw materials and/or quality system audit experience
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemistry or Material Science
Prior experience working in Material Quality Chemical group
Cross-functional team or group leadership and collaboration experience
Skilled in seat commodity quality assurance activities (i.e. master seat activity)
Experience auditing and confirming Manufacturing Quality Control Charts (MQC), SPC, PFEMA, PPAP
Manufacturing or Engineering experience with any of the following chemical materials: paint, oils & fluids, leather & fabric, resin & plastic
Practical, hands-on experience testing materials and/or parts in a laboratory setting
Experience with chemical materials or technology related to battery EV/HV
Leather Research Institute Training/Certification(s)
Textile Fundamentals training
ASQM Certification (CQA/CQE, etc.)
