Description
As a result of program growth, the Advanced Warfare Technology Division of the Leidos Innovation Center is looking for a Machine Learning Research Scientist to support remote sensing programs in Beavercreek, OH. As a Machine Learning Research Scientist you will apply your skills to a wide variety of problems and datasets, primarily focused on remote sensing (SAR/RF, acoustic, EO/ IR, and LIDAR) applications. You will work with a multi-disciplined design team (Electrical Engineers, Physicists, Computer Scientists, etc.) to design, develop, simulate, and integrate new algorithms into sensor systems and data fusion solutions based on given project requirements. Current projects include, but are not limited to, detection, tracking, data fusion, and classification.
This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the Combat Identification team advance research and developments for target recognition solutions where we develop a variety of combat identification (CID) algorithms and specialize in technologies to train these systems on synthetic data. We are looking for a qualified candidate to bring technical excellence, leadership, entrepreneurship, and creativity to our programs. You will lead technical project areas and have the opportunity to pursue growth in new technologies.
This position requires about three quarters of the job duties to be performed onsite due to the sensitive nature of this work and the desire for in-person collaboration, however we offer flexible in-office hours and the ability to perform some job duties remotely.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership for tasks and programs.
Working with teams on the research, design, and development of sensor exploitation systems including signal processing, automatic target recognition, and signature modeling.
Develop Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithms using Python, MATLAB, C++, and other languages for real world applications. Leverage state-of-the-art AI/ML tools and methods to improve performance of ATR systems.
Rapidly and iteratively implement new algorithms to address these challenges.
Collaborating with our customers to address challenging mission requirements by researching and developing new capabilities as well as making improvements to existing systems.
Develop performance models and algorithms for new and/or existing target recognition solutions.
Perform high-level software development functions using Python, PyToch, C++, Matlab, Java or similar languages including design, development, troubleshooting, and debugging software programs.
Collaborate with other experts within the program and in the user community to design, develop, and debug existing software, and to design and develop enhancements that incorporate new capabilities into various components of the existing systems.
Responsible for using sound software engineering principles to ensure that developed code is modifiable, efficient, reliable, understandable, fault tolerant, and reusable, including providing software process management and control throughout the coding portion of the software development process.
Contribute to software development activities as a member of an agile team and actively participate in program increment planning, Feature and Story development, Sprint Planning, Demos, Iteration Retrospectives and related team activities.
Provide inputs to test requests and reports, ensuring that all stated requirements and test objectives have been evaluated and the documented results adequately and accurately reflect the collected data and analysis conducted during the event.
Author, design, and apply DOE and Combinatorial Testing (CT) to test case design.

At Leidos, we don’t want someone who "fits the mold"—we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over-caffeinated, the ones who ask, “what’s next?” before the dust settles on “what’s now.”
If you’re already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2… good. You’ll fit right in.
