DG BOSS: IT Data Center Operator (FN)
Program Summary:
- KBR provides provide integrated Base Operations Support (BOS) services to the Commanding Officer, Navy Support Facility, Diego Garcia (NSF DG) in support of its mission as a Forward, logistics, support base in the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT).
Job Summary:
- The IT Data Center Operator provides technical assistance and support to internal users to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and security of computer systems, software, and network infrastructure. Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for troubleshooting hardware and software issues, administering data systems, and maintaining overall system performance and reliability.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide telephone and in-person technical support to employees regarding assigned products and systems.
- Respond to inquiries related to installation, operation, configuration, customization, and system status.
- Collaborate with network services and application developers to restore service, ensure usability, and resolve identified problems.
- Apply diagnostic techniques to identify issues, determine root causes, and recommend solutions to correct common failures.
- Provide technical support for desktop applications, operating systems, and hardware used within the organization.
- Administer computer systems and peripheral devices, including servers, desktops, printers, and storage systems.
- Install, upgrade, configure, and maintain operating systems, ensuring security, data integrity, and system backups.
- Assist in monitoring, responding to, and repairing hardware and software problems according to established procedures.
- Support system recovery, performance tuning, and compliance with security standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in accordance with contractual, functional, and mission requirements.
BASIC JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Solid understanding of computer networking concepts.
- Proficiency in structured network cabling, including installation, testing, termination, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of data security principles, backup, and recovery processes.
- Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting IT hardware and software.
- Proficiency with computer diagnostic tools and software.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server and desktop operating systems.
- Familiarity with email systems and related support processes.
- Experience using and supporting cloud-based applications.
- Ability to perform data analysis and generate ad hoc reports.
- Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills (verbal and written).
- Experience with computer asset and inventory management.
- Knowledge of LAN system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks under strict deadlines and changing priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license from the country of origin.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR TRAINING
- IT-related certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft, Security+, or equivalent) are highly desirable.
EDUCATION:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least (3) years of experience in an IT environment with Help Desk or Technical Support experience.
