Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
The Senior Director, Platform Strategy will serve as the core strategic partner to the SVP, Technology & Engineering, shaping the long-term technological vision for Versant Media. This critical, highly visible leadership role will define and drive the unified platform roadmap, ensuring its direct alignment with the company's long-range strategic roadmap. They will be instrumental in the post-spin unification and modernization of our technical ecosystem, owning the scaled implementation of strategic initiatives and establishing the governance required for platform stability and resilience. This role demands a unique blend of executive communication and deep technical expertise across the modern media stack, including content management systems, sophisticated media workflows, DevOps practices, and enterprise cloud infrastructure, all to accelerate innovation and deliver best-in-class content experiences across Versant's premier brands.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
Strategic Planning & Execution
- Develop and champion the unified technology platform strategy, collaborating across the Production Engineering, Software Engineering, Infrastructure, Data Platforms, and Emerging Tech domains.
- Translate the executive vision for a platform-based media company into a clear, actionable technology roadmap and portfolio of initiatives.
- Lead the annual and quarterly strategic planning process for the Technology & Engineering organization, ensuring alignment with Versant Media's overall business objectives and financial targets.
- Identify opportunities for platform consolidation, cost optimization, and shared service implementation to drive technical and operational efficiency.
Leadership & Governance
- Serve as the Technology & Engineering team’s representative in high-level cross-functional forums, committees, and meetings, effectively communicating the organization's priorities and ensuring technical alignment.
- Establish and govern a technical decision-making framework (e.g., architectural review, platform standards) to ensure consistency, security, and scalability across all development teams.
- Lead complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives that require coordination across software development, cloud operations, data science, and product teams.
- Manage the flow of critical information to and from the SVP, preparing executive presentations, briefing materials, and internal communications on strategic matters.
Technology & Innovation Scouting
- Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify emerging technologies, industry trends, and strategic partners that can accelerate Versant's platform capabilities.
- Drive the strategy for emerging technologies and innovation (AI/ML, advanced video codecs, metaverse) with a focus on practical applications that enhance product offerings or generate operational value.
- Ensure that the platform strategy proactively addresses key areas like data governance, cloud strategy, and network architecture to support future media delivery models.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a strategic technical leader with a proven ability to influence and align large, distributed engineering teams through effective requirements synthesis and enablement. You possess a deep understanding of cloud architecture and sophisticated media workflows, and you excel at translating complex technical vision into clear, compelling business strategies. A natural collaborator, you can skillfully navigate Versant's complex organizational structure to build consensus and drive adoption of the future unified platform.
- Demonstrated experience in a progressive technology role, with at least 5 years in technology strategy, platform management, or corporate development within a large-scale media, streaming, or digital enterprise.
- Proven ability to define and drive complex, multi-year technology roadmaps that unify diverse engineering and product organizations.
- Exceptional executive-level communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, strategic narratives for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Deep understanding of the modern media technology stack, including cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP), data platforms, microservices, and broadcast/digital video distribution.
- Prior experience in a strategic planning, Chief of Staff, or similar highly-leveraged role reporting to a CTO, CIO, or SVP of Engineering.
- Experience navigating and integrating technology ecosystems during a merger, acquisition, or corporate spin-off.

- Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
