Description:Perform a wide variety of duties to determine the acceptability on various types of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical/electronic production units and components.
Perform tests integral to radio, electrical and electronic circuitry on helicopters, and conduct functional and physical property tests on gages, instruments, and aircraft materials.
Also perform tests on hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical production units and components.
Generally lead and instruct one or two helpers, and occasionally, as work flow demands, a group seldom over 10.
Assign and check work of helpers and instruct them in proper work methods and use of equipment. Refer all other problems of group to working leader or supervisor.
Perform independently and/or guide others in the performance of a wide variety of duties to check out, trouble-shoot, adjust, make alignments, etc., on all production units and components involved in radio, electrical, electronic circuitry on aircraft. Perform a wide variety of functional and physical property tests on gages, instruments and aircraft materials. Also perform a wide variety of duties involved in the set up, test and inspection of various types of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical units. Test procedures are established by Engineering.
Observe and record results of tests as required by work instructions. When necessary, disassemble and assemble units and parts to adjust and correct settings according to operational requirements and prescribed standards. Assure that parts and units have not been altered from original required specifications before and after tests. Diagnose and remedy difficulties by adjusting or replacing defective components. Construct ordinary jigs, fixtures and other holding or locating devices for test use. When required, make out necessary quality assurance reports for Engineering Department.
Occasionally perform check out functions on aircraft and work on prototype components, equipment and installations. Prepare rejection reports (including non-conforming material rejection reports) and recommend engineering design notices whenever discrepancies in test procedures, drawing or specifications are apparent. Maintain necessary laboratory inspection records and/or metrics in hard copy or electronic media as required. Assure that test equipment and instrumentation are calibrated and functioning properly.
Make standard adjustments and calibrate test equipment, gages, indicators, instruments, flow meters, etc., as required. Perform other duties, usually of the same and similar nature, at the direction of supervision.
Follow all rules and regulations pertaining to environmental health and safety; contribute to the overall effectiveness of equipment by performing operator-required upkeep; segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices. Refer unusual or difficult problems to senior workers, Working. Leader, or Supervisor.
Basic Qualifications:Duties require a well-rounded knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and electronic theory and practice including its application to aircraft, and weapons systems.
Use shop mathematics and electronic formulas, read complicated wiring diagrams, schematic and assembly drawings, and a wide variety of standard and special testing, equipment associated with production testing.
Equivalent to 2 years high school plus 3
years technical training in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical/electronic test methods.
3 to 4 years of experience.
Perform independently and/or guide other test mechanics in the performance of acceptability tests on units and components integral to radio, electrical, and electronic
circuitry on helicopters, as well as functional and physical property tests on gages, instruments and aircraft materials. Judgment required conducting tests in the absence of established procedures, handling trouble-shooting assignments, and writing preliminary test procedures.
Overall light physical effort required handling light to medium weight components and test equipment and performing check out functions on aircraft, with most activity confined to bench type testing.
Continuous, mental and visual attention required to set up and conduct tests, and observe and record results accurately.
Faulty handling or hook up of expensive mechanical, electrical, or electronic test equipment may result in breakage or burned out components. Probable damage seldom over $500.
Desired Skills:ESD Certification
Ability to explain the basic knowledge and understand of electrical components, theories, practices, and applications.
Experience with electrical bench testing equipment
