Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Prototype Weld and Paint Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Prototype Technician
The primary responsibility of this role is to support the Prototype manufacturing process within R&D.
Reporting to the Prototype Weld and Paint Manager, the person in this role will support the Prototype Weld and Paint Department department's objective to support Toyota North America Product Development and Vehicle Evaluation.
What you’ll be doing
Supporting prototype vehicle and mobility project production from concept to delivery, ensuring safety, quality, and on-time results. This hands-on role includes learning and performing welding and fabrication, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and developing skills using Toyota’s core competencies.
Responsibility will be centered around prototype production welding and operation planning.
Taking the initiative to solve problems and create Kaizen to support Safety, Quality, Productivity KPIs.
Support equipment integration and installation and vehicle build planning.
Toyota Safety Management System participation.
Flexibility and commitment to responsibilities will require up to 30% overtime at peak times.
Fabricate components and vehicle modification
This position follows our return-to-office policy, Monday through Thursday with work from home Fridays contingent on the needs of the business.
What you bring
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in fabrication with a trade school education or the equivalent hands-on work experience in manufacturing and assembly environments.
Minimum of 2+ years of experience Resistance Spot Weld Robot Programming such as, Fanuc, Yaskawa (Motorman), KUKA, ABB, Nachi, Kawasaki.
Minimum of 1 year of experience using CAD software of similar software such as CATIA, NX/Unigraphics, Creo, SolidWorks to manipulate and interpret vehicle data for design, fabrication, and prototype development.
Minimum of 2+ years of experience with Offline Programming (OLP) software to create and simulate robot welding programs in a virtual environment.
Added bonus if you have
Associates degree Welding Technology or the equivalent.
Experience in schedule management, negotiation, consensus building and strong ability to prioritize resources while exceeding customer expectations.
Experience using KPIs for goal setting and process management.
Experience with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Prototype manufacturing.
Experience with programming weld robots.
