Caterpillar has a great opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to join the Drivetrain engineering team and contribute to helping our customers build a better, more sustainable world. You’d be working with transmissions found in machines such as wheel loaders, telehandlers, and backhoe loaders. You’ll be able to act as a drivetrain specialist within the Building Construction Products Division directing and participating in a variety of topics and all elements of the design and development process. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your excellent analytical skills and mastery of engineering concepts and processes whilst staying up to date with the industry.
As Senior Design Engineer, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Identifying needs, gathering requirements, defining problems, completing complex analyses, and resolving complex technical issues in line with requirements and customer expectations.
Playing a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, performance, and durability expected of our superior products by our customers
Making a leading contribution to concept designs, design realisation, verification, test and validation planning for complex components, subsystems, or processes.
Deploying your significant technical expertise to lead or support new product concepts, product improvements and complex engineering projects.
Identifying design risks, evaluating alternate solutions, and proactively resolving challenges to balance all stakeholder, business, and customer expectations along the way
Work directly with different units, suppliers, customers and/or other teams to define problems and collaborate to reach solutions.
Anticipating and proactively engaging with challenges, helping reinforce the culture of acting with a sense of urgency, to serve our customers.
Effectively communicating technical information, project updates, and challenges in a clear and accurate manner to diverse audiences.
Making decisions that may affect the whole team, the associated timebound deliverables, and may also impact customers, dealers, suppliers, costs, quality, and customer perception.

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or at least 6 - 12 years equivalent relevant experience such as working as a senior design engineer or leading technical design activities.
Ability to self-start, effectively manage time, manage multiple objectives in parallel and be highly effective with minimal oversight.
Significant experience in detailed design and development, and production launch, of drivetrain, transmissions, transmission sub-systems and transmission components.
Demonstrable design and development experience with countershaft, hystat, planetary transmissions. Hydraulic systems, hydraulic component integration (valves / pumps / motors), wet clutches. Gears (planetary, helical, bevel, spur), shafts, bearings, and housings.
