Who we’re looking for
Toyota Research Institute of North America, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is seeking a Senior Research Manager to lead the R&D activities in the fuel-cell and electrolyzer area.
What will you do:
Leverage deep understanding of Toyota’s philosophy to lead a team of talented scientists to materialize cutting-edge advanced technologies for future fuel-cell and electrolyzer.
Utilize extensive experience in materials, specifically in catalysis, membrane, MEA (membrane electrode assembly) integration, and design to promote novel materials and prototypes towards the advanced development phase.
Manage global collaboration with research institutes, national laboratories, academia, start-ups, and OEMs while staying abreast of the cutting-edge hydrogen technology field.
Work collaboratively in a leadership role with a strong commitment to the Toyota team members' core principles, such as respect for people, act for others, kaizen to promote teamwork.
This position requires onsite presence Monday through Thursday, with flexible remote work possible on Fridays depending on the needs of the business.
What will you bring:
Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with 10+ years of professional working experience.
A deep understanding of the fuel cell and water electrolyzer materials, MEA, seal, stack design, and testing protocol.
Strong network in the fuel-cell and hydrogen technology field among academia and national laboratories.
Extensive understanding of electrochemical principles. Experience with laboratory techniques, equipment for analysis and characterization, proficiency in data analysis, modeling software.
Excellent communication abilities. and a strong record of analytical problem-solving skills.
An exceptional publication record in scientific journals and a record of high-level innovation in terms of patents and other forms of awards.
Added bonus if you have:
Scaling up electrolysis and Fuel cell systems, knowledge of integrating renewable energy, familiarity with industry standards, and safety regulations.
Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
