Principal Maritime Engineer

Working within our National Maritime Team you will lead the design and delivery of complex maritime and coastal engineering projects across Australia and beyond.
About the Role
We’re seeking a Principal Maritime Structural Engineer to take charge of structural design and engineering services for maritime structures including wharves, jetties, piers, and coastal infrastructure. You’ll work on high-impact projects, lead multidisciplinary teams, and provide expert guidance to engineers and designers.
This is a senior leadership role where your technical expertise, project management skills, and strategic thinking will shape the future of maritime engineering in our organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Lead structural design for maritime projects using concrete, steel, timber, and engineered materials.
Manage small to medium-sized projects or lead engineering teams on large multidisciplinary projects.
Prepare and verify design calculations using tools like SPACE GASS, Strand7, and OPTIMOOR.
Develop technical reports, specifications, and contract documentation.
Mentor and supervise junior engineers and designers.
Liaise with clients, authorities, and consultants to ensure project success.
Contribute to proposals, bids, and business development activities.
Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and company quality systems.
About You
You’re a highly experienced maritime structural engineer who brings deep technical knowledge, leadership capability, and a collaborative mindset. You’ll thrive in a dynamic environment where your expertise makes a real impact.
You’ll have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
20+ years of experience in maritime structural engineering, including design and remediation of wharves, jetties, marinas, seawalls, pontoons, and port infrastructure.
Strong capability in structural/maritime analysis software (ideally Strand7, SPACE GASS, OPTIMOOR).
Proven experience managing projects and preparing proposals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly.
Eligibility for Chartered Professional Membership (IEAust) and RPEQ accreditation (or ability to obtain within a set timeframe).
A solid understanding of the maritime engineering industry and its commercial/consulting environments.
A proactive, independent work style with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
