Overview
ABM Industries is seeking a Senior Manager – Indirect Tax to help lead indirect tax compliance, audit and technology functions for ABM’s domestic and international operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing sales & use tax, value added taxes, and other indirect taxes ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting business initiatives across ABM’s diverse portfolio. Given the growing footprint of ABM, the successful candidate will be part of a dedicated tax team providing ample opportunities for growth and development while supporting an evolving $8B+ organization.
This position requires hands-on experience with Vertex O Series and Vertex Returns, strong knowledge of multi-jurisdictional tax laws, and a collaborative approach to working across functions.
As a Senior Manager, you will be an integral part of the team reporting to the Vice President of Tax.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee outsourced sales and use tax compliance, including vendor management, coordination of filings, review of returns, and oversight of service providers to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with state and local tax regulations.
- Manage indirect tax audits, including data collection, issue resolution, communication with authorities, and development of defense strategies.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (Legal, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Operations, IT) to ensure indirect tax is accurately applied across business processes and transactions.
- Provide technical tax guidance on business initiatives, contracts, and transactions to support compliance and minimize risk.
- Contribute specialized indirect tax expertise on ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives.
- Direct the end-to-end U.S. and international indirect tax compliance process, including preparation, review, and filing of returns.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on Vertex O Series and Vertex Returns, ensuring proper configuration, maintenance, and system accuracy.
- Monitor and analyze state nexus developments and tax law changes, assess business impacts, and implement appropriate responses.
- Mentor, coach, and supervise tax staff and analysts supporting the indirect tax function.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the indirect tax lifecycle to enhance efficiency and controls.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance or related field
- CPA preferred; MST or JD is a plus
Experience
- 8 years or more of progressive indirect tax experience in a public accounting and large corporate tax department setting
- Minimum 3 years of experience using Vertex O Series and Vertex Returns
- Prior experience managing or participating in multi-state audits
- ERP system experience (in particular Oracle) preferred
- Strong technology skills including Microsoft suite (in particular Excel)
