Air Products is hiring an Ammonia Plant Superintendent for our new Gulf Coast Ammonia facility in Texas City, TX—In addition to the world’s largest single-train Ammonia (NH₃) Synthesis Plant, this innovative site includes Air Products’ largest Steam Methane Reformer (SMR), a high-capacity Air Separation Unit (ASU), steam turbine generator, combined utility systems, with direct connections to Air Products' extensive hydrogen pipeline system and regional ammonia pipelines.
The NH3 plant and associate pipelines are owned by a 3rd party, Gulf Coast Ammonia, LLC (GCA) and are operated and maintained by Air Products as an integrated hydrogen, nitrogen, ammonia, and power production facility.
We are seeking a driven Ammonia Superintendent to lead all aspects of the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the ammonia production unit, ensure adherence to environmental and safety standards and regulations, meet contractual requirements, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. This high impact leadership role that reports to the Operations Manager requires strong technical expertise, excellent leadership skills, and a dedication to operational excellence.
A core responsibility of this role includes oversight of the Operations and Maintenance Agreement between Air Products and GCA. You will act as the primary liaison with GCA's operations and technical representatives.

Key Job Responsibilities:
- Own and implement the systems, processes, and procedures needed to adhere to the operating requirements under the Air Products – GCA Plant Operations Agreement.
- Lead an engaged and motivated team of 10-12 employees including a Site Supervisor, 3 Shift Leads, and Operator Technicians in all facets of the daily unit operation and maintenance.
- Serve as the lead for the site Emergency Response Team.
- Respond confidently and quickly during periods of crisis or emergency to plan, coordinate, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Implement and improve Environmental, Health, and Safety procedures to ensure the protection of our employees, contractors, community, and environment.
- Ensure the Ammonia Plant is adequately integrated into the overall Air Products Texas City site.
- Direct and monitor Ammonia Plant production to efficiently meet customer requirements.
- Identify and implement improvements to Ammonia Plant that enhance Air Products' & GCA’s utilization of the assets.
Required Skills / Abilities:
- Track record of safety in technical, operations, or maintenance roles in hazardous chemical process industry.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of systems, tools, and processes that support plant operations and budgeting.
- Skilled in building and coaching teams to achieve Operational Excellence.
- Strong understanding of commercial agreements and the ability to translate them into effective operational strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to engage across functional teams and organizations.
- Flexible and committed to meeting team, organization, and business needs.
- Previous plant process engineering or production engineering experience is strongly differentiating.
Education, Licensing, and Experience Requirements:
- 6-10+ years of direct experience in ammonia or similar chemical/petrochemical continuous process plants.
- Engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
Work Hours & Benefits:
- This is a full-time, direct hire, salaried exempt position based on-site in an industrial plant facility in Texas City, TX.
- Minimal travel requirements.
- 24/7 on-call requirement.
