Job Purpose
The Site Project Engineer will oversee the engineering and construction of onshore oil and gas projects, ensuring that all engineering deliverables meet safety, quality, and operational standards. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the successful execution of projects from planning through to completion on site. The candidate should bring upstream experience across Water Injection Facilities, Oil Processing, ESPs, Tanks, Flowlines and Trucklines, Production Headers, and Ring Mains to ensure robust design and execution of integrated facilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Project Oversight: Supervise on-site engineering activities, ensuring adherence to design specifications and project schedules. Bring upstream facility experience (Water Injection, Oil Processing, ESPs, Tanks, Flowlines/Trucklines, Production Headers, Ring Mains) to ensure cohesive integration with downstream and onshore facilities.
- Technical Review: Review and evaluate the engineering designs, plans, and specifications for compliance with project requirements and industry standards, including upstream systems (water injection, processing, and reservoir support facilities) and associated interfaces.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including project management, procurement, construction, and operations, to facilitate smooth project execution. Leverage upstream domain knowledge to harmonize interfaces between water injection, processing units, storage tanks, flowlines, and distribution systems.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve technical issues as they arise during construction, proactively implementing solutions to maintain project timelines. Address upstream-specific challenges in water injection facilities, ESPs, tank integrity, flowline routing, and header/ring main configurations.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure the implementation of engineering best practices and quality control measures in line with KBR and BP standards, with particular attention to upstream equipment reliability, corrosion control, and commissioning readiness.
- Upstream Design Integrity: Assess and validate designs for Water Injection Facilities, Oil Processing units, ESP installations, Tank farms, Flowlines and Trucklines, Production Headers, and Ring Mains to ensure compatibility with onshore and near-shore interfaces.
- Construction Methodology: Develop and supervise construction methodologies for upstream facilities, including excavation, piping, insulation, coating, and commissioning sequences specific to upstream assets.
- Commissioning Support: Prepare and execute commissioning plans for upstream facilities, ensuring safe, reliable start-up of water injection, processing, ESP systems, storage tanks, and associated pipelines.
- Risk Management: Identify upstream-specific risks (e.g., reinjection integrity, corrosion, scale, flow assurance, ESP reliability) and implement mitigation plans.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations on site, including upstream facility standards and interfaces.
- Reporting: Prepare regular project status reports for management, highlighting progress, risks, and areas for improvement, with explicit coverage of upstream facility milestones.
- Stakeholder Management: Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to address concerns and foster positive relationships, especially around upstream facility design and performance.
Technical Skills
- Strong background in design and execution for onshore oil and gas projects, including upstream facilities such as Water Injection, Oil Processing, ESPs, Tanks, Flowlines/Trucklines, Production Headers, and Ring Mains.
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SAP, PDS/PDMS, CAESAR II, RECOMMEND) and tools relevant to mechanical engineering and piping design.
- Deep understanding of engineering principles, codes, and standards applicable to the oil and gas industry (API, ASME, IEC, NACE, etc.), including upstream process equipment and flow assurance concepts.
- Experience with construction methodologies and techniques specific to oil and gas facilities, including upstream water handling, injection systems, processing units, tanks, lines, and headers.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to navigate complex project challenges, particularly upstream interface issues.
- Leadership qualities to inspire and guide project teams towards successful outcomes.
- Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment, particularly in high-stakes situations and multi-discipline projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in onshore oil and gas projects, with a focus on design and EPC phase, including upstream facilities such as Water Injection, Oil Processing, ESPs, Tanks, Flowlines/Trucklines, Production Headers, and Ring Mains.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering and construction of upstream facilities integrated with onshore developments, with knowledge of process-utility interfaces, piping, instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with commissioning and start-up of upstream facilities (water handling, injection, processing, and storage).
Work Environment
This role will be based on-site in Iraq, involving direct engagement with local and international teams.
A strong emphasis on creating a supportive work environment for local employees, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and respect among all team members.
