Boeing’s BCA Materials & Processes Engineering (M&PE) team is looking for an Associate Measurement Engineer to be part of the Measurement Team based out of North Charleston, South Carolina.
The Measurement Team is involved in a variety of projects from small to large volume data collection and high accuracy. The team is an industry leader in pushing current measurement capabilities and automating data collection and analysis. The Measurement team leads the Companies development and deployment into the operational environment, the measurement technology and ancillary processes to leverage digital data for precision assembly and part verification in real-time. This enables a streamlined manufacturing process and improves quality during the assembly process by leveraging digital data and automating the assembly/build. These technologies encompass a true end-to-end model-based engineering approach that includes advanced data processing/analytics to align and validate large airplane structure during fabrication.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assists with definition of requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes used in the engineering design, manufacture and/or maintenance of Boeing products
- Drafts engineering specifications and other documents to manage the deployment of tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes
- Assists in evaluation of emerging technologies for potential application to business needs
- Assists with development and qualification of new tools, equipment, materials, parts and processes to meet requirements
- Performs routine tests and audits to qualify suppliers to applicable requirements
- Conducts routine analysis to determine performance or reasons for failures of tools, materials, parts or processes
- Assists in implementing corrective and preventive actions
- Develops computer and production systems to satisfy user requirements
- Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements. Incorporates environmental health and safety, LEAN and Quality principles into (1) materials and processes, (2) research, design and qualification, (3) work procedures and (4) labs and office areas
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Experience with 3D Modeling Software
- ABET accreditation
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) and how to apply to measurement analysis
- Experience to perform measurement uncertainty calculations
- Experience with 3D Portable Measurement Systems: i.e: Laser Tracker, Photogrammetry, Laser Scanner, LIDAR, and Structured Light Scanner
- Experience with manufacturing or assembling of aircraft
- Experience with computer programming (i.e. C#, Python, C++)
- Experience with Lean principal applications
