Data Scientist
Job Description:
As a Data Scientist at Caterpillar, you will be a strategic partner driving data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role is pivotal in enabling Caterpillar’s IT Strategy which focuses on customer-back prioritization, data as an enterprise asset, and technology-driven work readiness. You will collaborate with technical and business teams to deliver measurable value through data, automation, and AI solutions, supporting Caterpillar’s mission to build a better, more sustainable world.
The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a deep understanding of data analysis methodologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What You Will Do:
Identify and integrate relevant data sources across enterprise-critical domains.
Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of data solutions, including but not limited to, core datasets, data models, data visualizations, AI/ML, etc., to solve a diverse set of complex business problems.
Develop and implement scalable data science frameworks, tools, and methodologies to deliver predictive and prescriptive insights.
Partner with business leaders to ensure solutions align with customer priorities, delivering insights that enable profitable growth and operational excellence.
Function as a trusted advisor, fostering collaboration between IT and business units to execute Caterpillar’s Strategic Focus Areas.
What You Have:
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Ability to analyze and visualize data to uncover patterns, anomalies, and insights before modeling.
Programming: Python, SQL
Data Engineering: ETL (SSIS, Airflow, Glue, etc.), data warehousing, cloud platforms (Snowflake - preferred, AWS, Azure).
Visualization & Storytelling: Ability to translate complex insights into actionable narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
Data Science & Analytics: Statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, supervised/unsupervised learning, tree-based models, NLP, deep learning, time-series forecasting.
Strategic Thinking: Experience aligning technical solutions with business objectives in a customer-back framework.
Top Candidates Will Have:
An advanced degree in Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or other numerate discipline
Prior roles held in data science discipline
Exceptional critical thinking skills, with the ability to break down complex challenges into actionable solutions.
Initiative-taking, curious, business-mindset, highly motivated, business-focused technology professional

The primary location for this position is Cary, NC.
This role requires 5 days onsite.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
