Job Description – Level 3 System Integration Test Engineer (Special Test Equipment)
The Level 3 System Integration Test Engineer is responsible for ensuring the readiness, reliability, and longevity of Special Test Equipment (STE) and other critical test and manufacturing assets used in complex aerospace and defense programs. This role blends deep hardware and software expertise with proactive operations, maintenance, and obsolescence management to support high‑risk test campaigns and production‑line activities.
Primary Duties
Lead STE test‑readiness activities
Develop and execute integration test plans that incorporate STE hardware and software configurations.
Verify calibration, configuration, and functional validation of all test equipment before each campaign.
Oversee operations & maintenance
Manage daily operation of STE assets and associated test/manufacturing equipment.
Implement preventive‑maintenance schedules, track equipment health, and maintain complete O&M manuals and configuration baselines.
Troubleshoot STE and other complex test/manufacturing equipment
Diagnose failures in a broad range of equipment, including PLCs, power‑electronics modules, signal‑processing boards, high‑speed data‑acquisition systems, vision‑inspection hardware, robotic test fixtures, and custom manufacturing tooling.
Apply systematic root‑cause analysis (RCA) techniques, leverage schematics, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic software, and generate corrective‑action reports (CARs).
Coordinate with design, software, and manufacturing teams to implement hardware fixes, firmware updates, or software patches, and validate that issues are fully resolved.
Manage component obsolescence
Conduct risk assessments on aging STE and manufacturing components.
Recommend retrofit, replacement, or redesign strategies and develop migration plans that align with cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
Provide expert software support
Perform embedded‑software loading, version‑control management, and verification on STE platforms.
Ensure seamless integration of software releases with test hardware and maintain traceability of software configurations.
Document and communicate
Produce concise technical briefings, status updates, and equipment configuration records for cross‑functional stakeholders.
Maintain accurate logs of maintenance actions, troubleshooting steps, and configuration changes.
Basic Qualifications:
-Hands‑on experience with Special Test Equipment (STE) and related test/manufacturing hardware such as PLCs, power electronics modules, and data‑acquisition systems.
-Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex hardware failures using root‑cause analysis, schematic interpretation, and diagnostic software tools.
-Proficiency in embedded‑software loading, version control management, and verification of software on test platforms.
-Knowledge of preventive‑maintenance practices, equipment configuration control, and the creation/maintenance of O&M documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for producing clear technical briefings, status updates, and equipment configuration records.
Desired Skills:
-Advanced troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis across hardware, firmware, and software domains.
Proficiency with PLC programming (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and interpretation of electrical schematics.
-Experience using test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, data‑acquisition systems) and analysis tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python.
-Excellent written and verbal communication for clear technical briefings and status reporting.
-Collaborative mindset to work effectively with design, software, and manufacturing teams.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $89,300 - $157,550. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
