Job Scope:
The Drivetrain Manager will lead a team of 10–15 engineers, responsible for delivering drivetrain-related projects and resolving customer issues. This role involves addressing complex system- and component-level technical challenges, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution of product programs, and consistently meeting the expectations of both internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development: Provide coaching and mentorship to enhance team members' technical expertise and leadership capabilities. Establish clear goals and effectively manage team performance.
- Safety & conflict resolution: Promote a safe work environment and encourage constructive resolution of team conflicts.
- Project Management: Define and manage project timelines based on technical expertise, team capabilities, and available resources. Ensure timely and quality delivery of drivetrain solutions.
- Technical Guidance: Provide expert technical direction to the team on design / field issues related to drivetrain systems, including planetary and countershaft transmissions and axles.
- Strategic Planning: Set and execute strategic direction at the section level. Manage operating expense budgets and contribute to long-term roadmaps to meet customer expectations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with internal teams, leadership, customers, and suppliers and translate customer and management feedback into actionable tasks for team.
- Decision-Making: Make informed decisions that influence product performance, process efficiency, warranty, customer satisfaction, and technological advancement. Collaborate across divisions, business units, and external partners to drive impactful outcomes.
- Customer Interaction: Engage extensively with dealers, vehicle teams, and customers to ensure alignment and satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or Automobile Engineering. Master’s degree in engineering preferred.
- Experience:
- 15–20 years of relevant experience in drivetrain systems and handling complex customer issues.
- Proven track record in leading teams and managing product development programs.
- Technical Expertise:
- In-depth knowledge of planetary and/or countershaft transmissions and axles.
- Proficiency in general engineering practices and experience in resolving field issues, leading CPI programs
- Leadership & Communication: Prior experience in leading teams, managing projects, and communicating technical concepts effectively.
- Preferred Background: Experience in design, field service, dealer interaction within Caterpillar is highly desirable.
Additional Information:
• Office Model: This position requires the employee to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
