The Role
The Virtual Propulsion Engineer (VPE) will lead program execution and capability development initiatives focused on gearbox CAE design, analysis, and product development for automotive propulsion systems. This role will work cross-functionally to drive technical excellence, foster innovation, and deliver high-impact solutions aligned with propulsion system requirements.
What You'll Do
- Develop and deploy innovative CAE methodologies for drive units and transmission components.
- Perform gearbox simulations focused on durability, efficiency, and NVH performance.
- Support product development from early concept through validation and production launch.
- Communicate technical findings effectively to internal and external stakeholders using appropriate formats and tools.
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality analysis and design solutions that meet cost targets and program milestones.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to enable integrated design, resolve technical challenges, and optimize system performance.
- Contribute to benchmarking activities for gearbox technologies and virtual engineering tools.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in simulation, design, testing, or release of propulsion-related systems.
- Familiarity with vehicle propulsion system design principles, operation, and testing methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- 2+ years of experience in CAE for propulsion systems.
- Expertise in NVH analysis, particularly for automotive gearboxes.
- Proficiency with CAE tools such as MATLAB, Abaqus, Hypermesh, and related platforms.
- Experience in test-to-model correlation and validation.
- Programming skills in Python or similar languages.
- Working knowledge of Siemens NX CAD modeling.
- Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred, with coursework in structural FEA.
