Your Role

As our next Senior Research Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping our organization’s success. Responsibilities:
- Testing parts, samples, and materials – may include mechanical, analytical, and chemical testing; for example, tensile testing, leak testing, burst testing, cycle testing, impact testing, flow testing, and more
- Visual inspection, microscopy analysis, and quantitative analysis, including statistical analysis methods.
- Creating final reports for tests, investigations, and research projects.
- Presenting the results with communications tailored to various audiences, including internal and external customers and the internal technical community.
- Development of test and research methods, including the implementation of ASTM and ISO standards.
- Maintaining a safe working environment and implementing safety improvements within the lab.
- Ensuring safe handling of chemicals, including proper chemical storage & chemical waste disposal.
- Researching relevant topics and pursuing technologies related to business goals and strategies.
- Performs other job duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements:
- 7+ years of lab experience within plastic or metal manufacturers, or relevant industries or academic institutions, laboratories, medical devices, pharmaceuticals handling equipment with a Master’s degree in Engineering and/or Science fields including Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical engineering or an equivalent degree or 10+ years of similar lab experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a similar field.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Good understanding of the scientific method & ability to educate others about scientific method.
- Experience in problem-solving methods & ability to conduct problem-solving projects.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Exhibits technical leadership and project management skills in the organization.
- This role may require up to 5% travel. Candidates should be comfortable with occasional travel as needed to support business objectives.
Preferred Skills:
- 8+ years of lab experience in both industry and academia
- Ability to operate all the following test devices and to analyze the data: FTIR, TGA, DSC, SEM, EDS, XRF & ability to educate/train others in these methods.
- Ability to operate and understand DMA testing including interpretation of test data, creep analysis, time-temperature superposition, etc. and teaching others.
- Experience in supporting technology development and/or research projects that impact business, being familiar with technology road maps.
- Experienced in chemical testing knowledge, and ability to safely use a fume hood.
- FTIR and XRF analysis knowledge with interpretation skills and method development.
- SEM and EDS knowledge with interpretation skills and method development.
- Very good understanding of thermal analysis – DCS, TGA and DMA altogether.
- Expertise material characterization – surface analysis, residual stress testing, chemical compatibility.
- Familiar with plastic joining technologies.
- Highly skilled at sample preparation for microscopy and plastics & metal applications including plating, passivation and anodization samples.
- Experience in chemical handling, storage, and disposal.
- Experience with the following activities: Publishing research papers, presenting webinars, writing white papers, attending technical workshops, and/or presenting in large audience technical events and conferences.
- Maintained membership and active in technical organizations.
