The Team Lead - Embedded Software will work as a member of the Electrical/Electronic Systems & Components engineering team at Thermo King, supporting transport refrigeration system development. This role will balance responsibilities between managing direct reports and contributing technically to embedded controls development projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will play a supporting role in strategic planning activities and provide input to ongoing discussions around continuous improvement within the Controls development process. The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of embedded software development and understand how interactions with hardware, software, validation test, and systems engineering teams contribute to a successful product.

What you will do:
- People Management:
- Manage direct reports, ensuring they are effectively allocated across various project teams.
- Mentor and supervise team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Ensure that direct reports have the necessary tools, resources, and training to excel in their roles.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of direct reports, providing feedback and supporting professional development
- Technical Contribution:
- Develop, document, and implement best practices, standards, and guidelines for developing embedded software targeting Linux and RTOS platforms.
- Champion continuous improvement by soliciting internal feedback, conducting retrospectives, and tracking industry advancements to refine software development and testing processes.
- Promote reuse and modularity by ensuring well-documented, easy-to-understand interface definitions for internal and external development partners.
- Ensure all embedded development activities adhere to established processes and are continuously improved based on internal feedback and industry trends.
- Strategic Planning:
- Assist in planning and road-mapping activities to build development capabilities.
- Provide input on training needs, resource allocation, and technology strategies.
- Support alignment of development team objectives with organizational objectives.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required. Other technical degrees may be considered with relevant work experience.
- At least 7 years’ experience in controls, electronics, systems, or software engineering experience is required.
- At least 2 years’ experience leadership in either people or technical management.
- Ability to develop, document, and enforce coding and process standards for embedded software.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and integration with embedded build systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a small team of engineers.
- Experience in automating processes is preferred.
- Knowledge in compressors, engines, or power electronics is a plus.
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $114,000 – 150,000
Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, and geographic location where the work is performed.
