Who we’re looking for
Toyota is looking for team members who are passionate about technology and interested in joining a collaborative and highly motivated team as Principal Engineer - Infrastructure Architecture.
The primary responsibility of this role is to automate and manage the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and services within TMNA, including configuring, installing, maintaining, upgrading, and problem-solving the Data Centers and Critical Facilities. Reporting to the Senior Manager – OneTech, the person in this role will join the Cloud Engineering & Software Development Support team to build and maintain secure, scalable, and resilient cloud infrastructure and systems.
This opportunity is based out of Phoenix, AZ with up to 50% travel to the various Toyota Manufacturing Centers and offices.
What you’ll be doing
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnering:
Act as a key partner to leadership, providing insights into Data Center Critical Facilities design, engineering and implementation.
Creates wholly new methodologies and designs strategies to ensure the long-term competitiveness of business processes, products, and services.
Ensure product delivery with a focus on quality, durability, reliability, agility, and scalability.
Architectural & Technical Strategy:
Design, implementation of highly available, scalable, and secure Data Center Infrastructure, including cooling, power, cabinets and physical security.
Leading capacity projections for Data center space, power and cooling, ensuring that infrastructure scales effectively to meet business demands.
Design, implementation with proper DR and HA capabilities are in place, designing fault-tolerant systems and redundancy across all critical infrastructure components.
Stepping beyond traditional Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems expertise to gain a broader perspective on overall compute demand and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders
Problem Solving & Methodology:
Anticipate and problem solve complex challenges of Data Centers and Critical Facilities capacity, requiring a balance of strategic vision and tactical execution, while influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
Innovates and refines design and engineering methods to ensure high system availability, security, of Data Centers and Critical Facilities with standard KPIs.
Provide technical expertise and analytical guidance to team members, assisting them in implementing data center infrastructure
Leadership & Development:
Provide functional expertise, project management, and team leadership in the implementation of mid-size to large projects, programs, or processes improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional team, fostering a culture of continuous learning
Makes decisions that typically impact a professional discipline within a major staff function, influencing the direction of datacenter projects
What you bring
Minimum 7 years of experience in managing Data Centers and Critical Facilities.
Proven experience managing and improving reliability and security in large-scale, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems, including operational incident management. Extensive experience with Uninterrupted Power Supplies (UPS), Heat Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) systems. Strong understanding of DR and HA strategies, including the design and implementation of redundant systems. Experience with physical security checks and compliance with security standards.
Possesses experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and working closely with Infrastructure teams on estimation processes and long-term Data Center capacity planning.
Demonstrates a strong framework for Data Center management—not limited to collocated data centers—but also incorporating Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) practices for Toyota Manufacturing plants and other critical environments such as computer rooms, MDFs, and IDFs.
Proven experience design, engineering and deployment of data center critical infrastructure on a large scale. Deep knowledge of datacenter design & engineer, including physical access control, layout design, capacity planning, and infrastructure standards.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence and drive cultural shifts towards automation and efficiency.
Added bonus if you have
Deep knowledge of physical access control and datacenter layout design, experience with infrastructure standards and best practices, proficiency in capacity planning for network and power systems.
Extensive experience with cooling systems and ensuring proper rack cooling, knowledge of backup power solutions and UPS networks, expertise in designing and implementing Disaster Recovery (DR) and High Availability (HA) capabilities.
Expertise in monitoring power consumption and optimizing energy efficiency, asset tagging, tracking, tracing, and proficiency in network provisioning and managing network capacity projections.
Experience conducting physical security checks, understanding of physical access control systems, and security protocols. Ensuring compliance with industry security standards.
Significant industry and departmental knowledge in datacenter management, awareness of the latest trends and technologies in datacenter operations.
