The Store Planner is a strategic partner and business owner within their assigned merchandise division(s), accountable for developing, communicating, and executing store-specific floor plans that align with enterprise strategies and customer experience goals. This role requires deep understanding of divisional priorities and financial metrics to translate high-level merchandising vision into tactical in-store execution. Store Planners own the end-to-end planning process—from initial assessment through implementation—ensuring that layouts not only support corporate initiatives but also maximize space productivity and ROI. Acting as a key voice for Store Planning, the Store Planner builds strong cross-functional partnerships with Merchandising, Store Optimization, Visual Space Planning, Real Estate, Engineering & Construction, Store Operations, and Store Environment teams. They influence project planning by articulating risks, opportunities, and implementation considerations tied to operational realities, customer experience, and profitability.
What You Will Do
Serve as the Store Planning business owner for assigned merchandise division(s), aligning layout strategies with divisional goals, performance metrics, and customer insights.
Partner cross-functionally to shape project scope and provide subject-matter expertise during planning sessions, elevating Store Planning’s influence in enterprise decision-making.
Advocate for planning and executional needs early in the project lifecycle to ensure seamless handoff from design through implementation.
Translate financial and operational KPIs into actionable planning strategies that balance business objectives with store-level execution.
Create and present comprehensive block plans and hand-off packages to the Visual Space Planning team, ensuring alignment with overall merchandising strategy and store format.
Design floor plans for major remerchandising efforts, new stores, chainwide resets, and strategic initiatives, accounting for operational efficiency and customer experience.
Lead the development of model layouts that serve as scalable templates across multiple stores and merchandise divisions.
Apply deep knowledge of fixture, display, and ADA requirements to produce compliant, operationally effective store environments.
Evaluate existing store conditions and apply financial space allocation methodologies to optimize layout and ROI.
Analyze performance and productivity metrics to inform future planning strategies and proactively recommend space reallocations as needed.
Develop effective layouts for high-impact zones (e.g., check stands, returns desk, receiving areas) that support efficient operations and customer service excellence.
Distribute store plans and documentation at key milestones (e.g., electrical, proof room, fixture orders) to internal partners, ensuring transparency and alignment throughout the planning process.
Maintain documentation of design intent and planning rationale to support downstream execution and future audits.
