The Shipper/Receiver & Logistics manages the flow of goods, receiving incoming inventory (checking, logging, storing) and shipping outgoing orders (packing, coordinating, dispatching), ensuring accuracy, proper documentation (inventory systems), safe loading/unloading, delivering shipments, and maintaining clean, organized warehouse areas, acting as the crucial link between suppliers and customers for materials.
Shipping Administration
- Verify incoming shipment documentation and match to orders and other internal documentation
- Provide and ensure usage of all placards, signage etc. on vehicles carrying classified goods or products
- Ensure all shipments are properly labelled and contents are verified against shipping documentation
- Sign all appropriate shipping and receiving documentation
- Provide all shipping receiving support documentation to supervisor or Administration personnel as directed
- File hardcopies of support documentation in appropriate and designated locations
- Manage all inbound and outbound logistics that directly affect Transchem Pro and manage outsourced transportation for Transchem
- Develop relationships with freight companies to improve services and lower costs with management.
- Identifies, vets and engages carriers
- Assist Operations Manager in daily duties, priorities and task planning
Material Handling and Forklift Operation
- Pick orders from inventory / warehouse / storage to match sales / delivery orders
- Unload incoming goods and materials from trucks and vans
- Move incoming materials to staging / storage / warehouse areas as designated
- Pick materials and products from storage and load onto appropriate material handling base (i.e. skids, totes, etc.)
- Secure all skids and loaded material handling bases for movement, loading shipping and unloading (i.e. shrink wrap, strapping, binding, taping etc.)
- Load shipments on trucks and vans using appropriate equipment
Driving & Delivery
- Review the route provided by the Order Desk and ensure all deliveries are delivered to customers sites
- Ensure all shipments are properly labelled and contents are verified against shipping documentation
- Ensure all chemicals are loaded into delivery vehicle according to TDG, MTO & safety standards
- At customer site evaluate the site and determine the safest place to park the vehicle to move the product to the backroom
Quality Control
- Escalate any issues with shipping or receiving materials promptly to the Operations Manager
Safety Excellence
- Keep a clean, neat and safe work areas, within the warehouse, vehicle and at the customer site
- Upon return to the warehouse empty truck of all plastics
- Ensure the truck is cleaned on both inside and outside
- Maintain a Class 5 and/or Class 3 + Z driver’s license in good standing and apply safe driving practices at all times
- Apply all knowledge related to WHMIS, TDG, Ministry of Transportation and all safety protocols to ensure safety both on and off-site
- Ensure that all mobile equipment is maintained and start-ups are performed properly
- Follow Health & Safety guidelines and other Standard Operating Procedures
- Work in a safe manner and strive for zero work-related incidents
- Understand and follow safety practices/procedures and WHMIS
- Operate Reach Truck and Tow Motor in accordance with training and certification guidelines
Education & Experience Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a similar position/function.
- Forklift, Reach Truck, Tow Motor, TDG certification
- Preference will be given to candidates that have additional education or training in manufacturing, or a warehouse environment.
Technical Skills & Competencies
- Competency in English to:
- Read, complete, and understand training materials and programs, including Standard Operating Procedures.
- Understand and perform safety regulations and best practices for handling hazardous materials, including the use of proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office software and ability to learn ERP function for specific job duties
- Understanding of Health & Safety best practices related to shipping and receiving, warehouse, and manufacturing environments with knowledge of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS)
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
- Adaptable with the willingness to support different areas of the manufacturing process as needed
- Ability to communicate effectively, & positively express and identify problems to the Operations Manager
- Demonstrated experience operating a forklift
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
The position works within the warehouse area. The environment at times may be noisy and hot during summer months. There is regular exposure to scents from chemicals.
Physical demands of the position require standing, moving product, using push/pulling force and frequent lifting of product. Concentration is needed in operating a Tow Motor or Reach Truck, and other equipment.
This position requires the ability to carry containers weighing 55 pounds as well as maneuver heavy drums that weigh up to 400 pounds. Frequent sitting is required for driving. Customer sites may be noisy, and temperature is greatly impacted by the weather, requiring working within extreme temperatures.
