The Role
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Manager to join our Compensation & Benefits and Payroll Tax Advisory practice. This role is ideal for a deep technical expertise with excellent client service mindset, in global payroll tax, fringe benefits, payroll audits, mobility workforce management and stock compensation plans, who also thrives in an independent, client-facing, business development-driven environment. You will lead complex client engagements, mentor junior staff, and play a key role in expanding our market presence through thought leadership, relationship building, and innovative service offerings.
- Advise clients on U.S. federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance, including but not limited to fringe benefits, equity compensation, mobile workforce taxation, and worker classification.
- Lead payroll tax audits and manage risk mitigation strategies for clients.
- Provide guidance on global compensation planning, cross-border payroll issues and HR program related policies.
- Interpret and apply IRS, and state-level regulations to client-specific scenarios.
- Collaborate with various Andersen stakeholders to excel in client-specific deliverables.
- Manage and mentor a team of consultants and managers across multiple engagements.
- Review technical deliverables and ensure high-quality client service.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
The Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field; CPA, JD, or Enrolled Agent preferred.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in employment tax, payroll compliance, or compensation consulting, preferably in a Big 4 or similar consulting environment.
- Proven track record of managing complex client engagements and leading cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of Federal and State payroll taxation, payroll systems, equity compensation, fringe benefits, and worker classification rules.
- Proficient in conducting research independently on complex tax topics.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for growing business and developing innovative solutions.
- Experience with global mobility or international payroll tax issues.
- Familiarity with Workday, ADP, or other payroll platforms.
Compensation and Benefits
Our firm offers a competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits package designed to support the well-being, growth, and long-term success of our people. Salary Range: For individuals hired to work in Foster City, California, the expected base salary range for this role is $180,400 - $255,700. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and skill set.
Benefits: Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance coverage. Employees may enroll in the firm’s 401(k) plan upon hire.
