Design Engineer - Locomotive structure and Sheetmetal
Role Definition
This role requires a dedicated engineering professional, specialising in core engineering disciplines, to drive outcomes within the Cabin Systems & Components department. The incumbent will be responsible for independently managing the complete design process for locomotive structures and light fabrication with minimal assistance.
Responsibilities –
- Analyse current structural designs and adapt designs to ensure consistency and standardization across projects.
- Lead the design process for car bodies, cabins, and enclosures, considering space allocation, regulatory compliance, and structural performance requirements.
- Present design concepts and solutions during review meetings and implement changes or improvements based on received feedback.
- Work closely with the virtual validation team to refine designs and ensure all technical and functional requirements are met.
- Apply DMFEA, BIQ, and APQP methodologies to ensure high-quality design standards are achieved and maintained.
- Partner with purchasing teams and suppliers throughout the design development process to meet defined cost objectives.
- Identify and resolve build issues by conducting root cause analyses and delivering timely, effective solutions.
- Recognize opportunities for cost reduction and redesign existing structures to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare and review detailed drawings for structural weldments to ensure accuracy and compliance with design specifications.
Degree Requirement – BE /B tech / ME /M tech Mechanical Degree required

- Technical Excellence: Locomotive Design –
- Possesses over 8+ years of experience in structural and sheet metal design, including at least 5+ years specializing in locomotive applications.
- Demonstrated success in completing at least two structural designs for locomotive orders.
- Participated in a minimum of three projects utilizing the DMAIC methodology.
- Led or contributed to at least two initiatives focused on cost reduction or quality enhancement.
- Highly skilled in using UG-NX and Teamcenter software.
Relocation is available for this position.
