Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for an Occupational
Safety Engineer to support the JETS II Contract.
The
Safety Engineer will:
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), Johnson Space Center (JSC), and State and local requirements.
- Act as a mentor to management and employees for the implementation of the JETS II Safety Program.
- Assist in procedure development, and review technical documents to ensure compliance with safety requirements.
- Conduct audits and walk-throughs to ensure organizational compliance with safety program.
- Provide guidance to operations to ensure safe and environmentally responsible work practices are implemented.
- Identify and communicate hazards, causes and effects as they apply to the industrial, aerospace test environment.
- Develop hazard controls and verifications to mitigate identified hazards.
- Independently analyze and make recommendations for system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
- Create hazard analysis products for facility systems used in support of flight hardware fabrication and testing using various analytical techniques to include System Hazard Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
- Assistance in the creation Job Hazard Analysis for tasks performed in laboratories, manufacturing facilities and test facilities
- Conduct safety and environmental health related training and design new training classes as needed.
- Research, procure and train employees in the use of personal protective equipment required to mitigate identified workplace hazards.
- Perform incident investigations to identify root cause and corrective actions.
- Provide reports and briefings to management.
- Provide program management responsibilities for all safety related programs and initiatives.
- Perform ergonomic assessments for field and office work environments.
- Manage and coordinate environmental requirements for workplace exposures.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requisition Qualifications:
- Typically requires a HS diploma and 5 years of experience or BS in Engineering Technology or related field.
- Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Proficiency with MS Office required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Preferences:
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in a related field and at least one (1) year of direct safety experience.
- Prefer ABET accredited Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering and at least one (1) year of direct safety experience.
- Direct experience with Incident & Injury Free and Behavior-Based Safety techniques desired.

Essential Functions Work Environment Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
