Job Overview & Responsibilities
United Launch Alliance (ULA) is seeking a Structural Engineer 2 to join the Major Projects group within the Engineering and Infrastructure (E&I) department at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS). This position plays a critical role in the development and sustainment of launch support infrastructure that enables safe and reliable space launch operations.
The E&I Major Projects group is responsible for the development and sustainment of launch support infrastructure including the launch pad (SLC-41), Vertical Integration Facilities (VIF-A/VIF-G), and associated support areas. In this role, you will serve as both a technical engineering resource and project leader.
Responsibilities:
Structural Engineering and Design:
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations for steel, aluminum, and concrete structures
- Review and validate contractor-produced structural analysis, calculations, and drawings for technical accuracy and regulatory compliance
- Develop and maintain 3D models and technical drawings (drafting) to support infrastructure projects
Project Management
- Interface with contractors, vendors, and cross-functional teams to drive project execution
- Develop project schedules and budgets
- Support systems engineering activities including requirements development and verification
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and project status updates
Required Education
Bachelor
Required Years of Experience
Minimum of 2 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 2 years of professional engineering experience in structural or mechanical engineering
- Demonstrated proficiency in solid mechanics and strength design principles
- Working knowledge of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) standards
- Ability to review and interpret structural drawings and analysis documentation
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage several concurrent priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification
- Experience with RISA 3D structural analysis software
- Advanced finite element modeling experience using FEMAP/NASTRAN
- Knowledge of concrete design principles and ACI (American Concrete Institute) standards
- Proficiency with Autodesk products including AutoCAD and Inventor for 3D modeling and drafting
- Experience working on aerospace facilities or launch infrastructure projects
- Background in systems engineering and/or project management
