Role Definition
The incumbent in this position will be working extensively on Mechanical design and engineering involving Turbomachinery Packaging System design supporting industrial gas turbine packaging and associated gas compression and power generation systems engineering and design.
This includes:
- Designing packaging systems and equipment layouts.
- Selecting and integrating components into complete packages.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives, new product development, and operational optimization to enhance system availability and reliability.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Independently investigate mechanical, hydro, shop, and field issues related to Solar Turbine products packaging systems.
- Develop and implement effective solutions to a wide range of shop and field problems.
- Design Hydraulics Systems / architecture / PID for New Product Development (NPD), Sustaining existing products (Current Product engineering), Cost Reduction, New Technology Introduction projects.
- Responsibilities to develop P&ID for Gas Fuel, Lube Oil, Liquid Fuel, Air Supply, Start, Compressor Seal, Water wash & Turbine systems being used in Gas turbines.
- Sizing the components like filters, regulators, Heaters, Coolers and Selection of Instruments, Valves and other components based on technical specifications.
- Perform hand calculations like pressure drop, Flow path, temperature etc
- Present and review your work in design review meetings to ensure alignment with engineering objectives.
- Provide innovative and creative solutions to complex design challenges.
- Lead and guide engineering teams in executing major projects.
- engage frequently with shop floor engineers, field engineers, suppliers, supply chain teams, and cross-functional groups including Controls, ELS, and HMI.
- Clearly communicate technical information related to your area of expertise.
- Apply standard engineering principles, concepts, and techniques in mechanical design and drafting/CAD.
- Interpret engineering drawings and apply analytical/scientific methods.
- Utilize engineering analysis techniques effectively.
- Demonstrate familiarity with gas turbine manufacturing processes, quality standards, design methodologies, and analysis practices.
- Coordinate with several functional teams to progress the design intent (Hydro/Electrical/HMI Groups)
- Good Presentation skill and demonstrate the capability through Design Review Meeting
- Strong knowledge on material properties and their performance considering offshore & Onshore loading conditions.
- Must apply practical design considerations and utilize technical knowledge to achieve design objectives relative to manufacturability, cost, quality, and durability.
- Support innovation by applying the most effective Design solution for new product development.
Qualification:
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university or equivalent relevant experience. 6-12 years’ experience (bachelor’s degree) or 5-8 years’ experience (Master’s degree) in Turbomachinery Packaging Systems Mechanical Design.
Knowledge on Gas Turbines and Packaging systems & components are added advantages.
Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills are a must. Knowledge of gas turbine operations, and driven equipment
Excellent in modelling techniques using Creo parametric / Autodesk
Exposure to the use of Product Lifecycle Management tool – Windchill or Equivalent
