The Principal Robotics Engineer will be at the forefront of the robotics revolution, building the software that orchestrates a large fleet of collaborative robots. You will create robust, full-stack applications designed for resilience and at a large scale. This is your chance to see your work have a direct and practical impact on the future of automation, from the initial algorithm all the way to real-world deployment.
Role is required to be onsite in San Jose, CA office 3 days per week, 2 days remote.
Responsibilities:
- Leads investigations in understanding how our robots perform in their environments to drive improvements to the robot's success
- Leads in the research and proposal of algorithms and approaches for pushing the envelope in the performance of autonomous robots
- Drives initiatives for SW quality standards and related process improvements including the deployment of industry standard tools
- Provides leadership in software architecture and best practices
- Works with product owners to develop a technology roadmap for meeting the needs of customers
- Champions new thinking and creativity in team members. Coaches others on how to effectively develop, communicate, and implement new solutions.
- Leads the research fundamental problems and implement algorithmic solutions that are appropriate.
- Serves as an organizational spokesperson on specialized projects or programs.
- Acts as prime consultant on large projects that affect the organization’s long-term goals and objectives
- Manages robotic software and systems and their connection to cloud systems.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 12+ years of experience, or
- Master’s degree i n Computer Science or related field and 10+ years of experience or
- PhD in Computer Science or related field and 6+ years of experience
- Minimum 12+ years of work experience in Robotics or related field (experience could include relevant MA/PHD program / research)
- Experience leading a technical project, including architectual conversations
- Expertise designing and implementing cloud-native distributed systems
- Expertise with Golang, Python, Typescript, and SQL databases
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to working in a robotics environment
- Exposure with warehouse execution and warehouse automation systems
- Strong collaboration skillset and demonstrated ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of industry-veteran roboticists, architects and engineers to tackle hard-problems, designing, prototyping, and testing new manipulation workcells and mobility solutions
- Expertise in designing complex applications using microservices architecture and asynchronous message-oriented systems.
- Expertise in debugging production systems under time and reliability pressure
- Must have the ability to work autonomously and drive home projects
- Expertise in UI development and familiarity with React.js.
- Expertise in designing multi-threaded applications and supporting those applications in production.
- Expertise with agile software development and Scrum methodologies.
- Expertise in Test Driven Development and testing best practices.
- Ability to contribute to both sustaining engineering and long-term innovation initiatives.

Salary: USD 153900.00 - USD 230900.00 Yearly
Salary offered will vary depending on your location, job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
Additionally, all Zebra roles are eligible for cash incentive programs. For example, sales roles have additional opportunity to earn substantial variable compensation tied to quota achievement. In most other roles, the Zebra annual cash incentive program links Company and individual performance together. Some roles may also be eligible for long-term incentive equity awards.
