None/Not RequiredWe are seeking a skilled Principal Specialist, Contracts to support and manage complex U.S. Government contracts—primarily DoD, Navy, and Air Force—within our Propulsion Systems business. This role will focus on FAR Part 15 contracting activity with both direct Government customers and occasionally major prime contractors.
In this role, you will support and lead portions of the contract life cycle from proposal through closeout, working closely with Program Management, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations. Your expertise in FAR/DFARS, pricing, and contract execution will be key to ensuring compliance, supporting negotiations, mitigating risk, and enabling on-time delivery to our warfighter customers.
This position requires a high level of ownership and judgment. You will proactively manage your contract portfolio while communicating clearly with internal stakeholders and external customer counterparts.
What YOU Will Do:

Support and, where appropriate, lead pre- and post-award contract administration for FAR Part 15 U.S. Government and DoD (Navy/Air Force) contracts and subcontracts.

Participate in proposal strategy and reviews, including risk identification, pricing/commercial term assumptions, and recommended mitigation strategies.

Prepare, review, and submit proposals and certifications (e.g., Truthful Cost or Pricing Data), and coordinate responses to customer questions, fact-finding, and audit requests.

Review solicitations (RFPs/RFQs), contracts, and modifications for FAR/DFARS compliance, risk, and alignment with company policy and business objectives.

Draft and propose alternate terms and conditions to mitigate risk (e.g., delivery, changes, data rights, warranty, termination, indemnity, limitation of liability).

Support and/or lead contract negotiations with U.S. Government and prime contractor customers, in coordination with Program Management and leadership.

Administer contracts throughout their life cycle, including funding actions, options, changes, mods, CDRLs, and deliverables, ensuring requirements and timelines are understood and met.

Ensure accurate contract setup and maintenance in company systems; maintain complete and compliant contract files and documentation.

Monitor and communicate key contractual obligations and risks (delivery, pricing validity, funding, period of performance, reporting) to the program team and leadership.

Ensure adherence to company policies, ethical standards, export and security requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.

Proactively identify and resolve contractual issues or discrepancies in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound business judgment and clear, concise communication in a fast-paced environment.

Occasional business travel may be required, including but not limited to visits to Fairfield, CA or Colorado Springs, CO and customer locations.
Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

Direct experience with FAR Part 15 U.S. Government/DoD contracting (Navy, Air Force, or other DoD agencies)

Working knowledge of FAR/DFARS flowdowns, Truthful Cost or Pricing Data (TINA), and government audit/fact-finding processes
Qualifications We Prefer:
-
Previous experience working with FAR Part 12 contracts is preferred
-
Experience supporting or leading negotiations on FFP, CPFF, CPIF, T&M, or IDIQ contracts and task orders

Prior contracts experience with DoD, NAVSUP, NAVSEA, USAF, or major aerospace/defense primes
-
Strong customer relationship and communication skills, with the ability to translate contractual concepts for non-contracts stakeholders

Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with Program Management, Finance, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain
-
Experience as a Contracts Lead or primary contracts interface to external customers is a plus

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
