Title:
National Security Solutions (NSS) - Software Engineering Intern
Project Overview
The purpose of this project is to leverage software development practices to incorporate a new artificial intelligence system into an existing application to reduce repetitive user workflows within the system.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement an AI-powered summarization feature within the Iron Stallion application ecosystem.
Develop a modular, reusable backend summarization service capable of handling multiple data types.
Integrate summarization capabilities into frontend applications in collaboration with senior software engineers.
Implement context-aware summarization logic, adapting outputs based on user interactions.
Work within object-oriented software architecture following established development standards and best practices.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including analysts, operators, and developers to ensure mission relevance.
Create technical documentation and knowledge transfer materials to support long-term adoption beyond the internship.
Learning Outcomes & Impact
This internship provides hands-on experience designing and integrating AI-powered summarization capabilities within a mission-critical operational platform. The intern will grow their technical skillset by applying machine learning and natural language processing concepts to complex, real-world data while working alongside experienced software engineers in an enterprise environment. Through mentorship and collaborative development, the intern will gain exposure to full-stack system design, scalable services, and
production-quality code. By embedding AI directly into analyst workflows, the project reduces repetitive analysis tasks, accelerates decision-making, and establishes a reusable foundation for future AI-driven capabilities across the Iron Stallion ecosystem.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
Coursework or experience in object-oriented programming (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, or similar languages).
Familiarity with software development fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design concepts.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to web application development.
Exposure to machine learning or artificial intelligence concepts.
Prior course or internship work incorporating artificial intelligence features.
