As a Tax Manager in the Global Tax department, you will be the primary tax point of contact for a Caterpillar global business unit. This entails frequent interactions with operations, sales, human resources, global trade, finance, and treasury teams. The experienced professional utilizes organizational skills, business acumen, and a high-level of accountability to ensure a strong relationship between Global Tax and the business unit.
You will be part of the Global Tax Team and will assist in providing comprehensive international tactical tax advice (in collaboration with Caterpillar subject matter experts) covering a broad range of issues, including:
- Supply chain analysis
- Contract analysis and structure
- Employee mobility
- Permanent establishment
- Transfer Pricing
What You Will Do:
The successful candidate will assist in providing tactical tax advice and support to a Caterpillar global business unit by:
- Tax Advisory: Analyze projects / contracts, working closely with finance team and other subject matter experts, to determine tax consequences and recommendations regarding contracting entity, delivery terms, etc.
- Business Related Projects & Tax Planning: Support/Analyze and interpret proposed changes to legislation and business activities to determine tax impact and ability to administer. Educate non-tax personnel on tax-related matters.
- Mobility: Analyze cross-border mobility risk for corporate and individual tax consequences and provide recommendations
- Tax Compliance Management & Review: Work closely with finance team and other subject matter experts to ensure tax compliance for non-US operations, including review of draft non-US income tax returns, transfer pricing filings and related audit support
- Lead or support projects related to process improvements or other initiatives
What You Have:
- Education/Experience: The position typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, tax, or business related degree and 6+ years of progressively responsible finance experience.
- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts; adapts documents and correspondence for intended audience; ability to explain tax concepts to other areas of the business and provide clear tax advice
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches and tools for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving problems; Analyzes and synthesizes information
- Tax Operations: Knowledge of tax practices and regulations; follows tax accounting and compliance practices and explains the rationale behind these practices and integrates this into business analysis
What Will Set You Apart:
- Experience in international (non-US) tax with sound understanding of transfer pricing principles.
- Knowledge of how tax laws function in a variety of tax jurisdictions; experience in emerging markets would be an advantage
- Experience at a Big 4 public accounting firm and/or large multinational corporation. Experience in the Oil & Gas industry will be a plus
- Understanding accounting, ERPs and business processes
- Collaborative and team-oriented personality with the ability to build and foster relationships throughout the organization
- Strong multi-tasking, communication skills, accountability, proactive organizational skills, and good judgment
- Strong verbal and written English skills. Other language proficiencies are an added strength
- Strong knowledge of M365 and familiarity with SharePoint
Additional Details:
- Location: San Diego, CA. Expectation is 5 days in the office.
- Domestic relocation is available for those who qualify
- Travel expectation: 5-10%

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
