The Discovery Biologics Department is seeking a Scientist I to join the Disruptive Technologies Group, a team focused on advancing and applying cutting-edge technologies to build a robust pipeline of innovative biotherapeutics. This role supports molecular biology–focused screening and characterization activities within early discovery programs. The Scientist I will work hands-on in a collaborative laboratory environment, contributing to the preparation, analysis, and documentation of biochemical reagents and samples while partnering closely with a diverse group of scientists at the Cambridge, MA site.
Responsibilities:
- Design, execute, and document molecular biology and biochemical experiments to support discovery programs
- Prepare DNA, RNA, protein, and other biochemical reagents using established protocols
- Perform molecular biology techniques including PCR, molecular cloning, IVT, and cell-free protein synthesis
- Analyze samples using SDS-PAGE, capillary electrophoresis, plate-based assays, and related analytical methods
- Perform NGS library preparation and sequencing to support screening and characterization efforts
- Maintain laboratory instruments, consumables, and reagent inventories
- Draft, review, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Document experimental results in electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) and present findings internally
- Collaborate cross-functionally and contribute to a culture of inclusion, accountability, and scientific rigor
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related scientific field
Experience:
- 2–4 years of academic or industry research experience in molecular biology or protein science
- Hands-on experience with PCR, molecular cloning, and cell-free protein synthesis
- Experience with protein expression and purification
- Experience with analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE and capillary electrophoresis
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
