Position Title: Communications & Operations Intern
Program: Total Operational Weather Readiness–Satellites (TOWR-S) Time Commitment: 5–10 hours per week (flexible; hours may vary by week) Appointment Period: January–May (with potential extension into Summer) Location: Remote / Hybrid (preference for alignment with NOAA/NWS operational environments)

Role Overview
The TOWR-S Communications & Operations Intern will support day-to-day communications, outreach, and operational coordination efforts across the TOWR-S program. This role is designed to provide practical experience at the intersection of science operations, stakeholder engagement, and program execution, while helping ensure consistency, follow-through, and quality across communications initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Communications & Outreach Support
- Assist with drafting, editing, and scheduling communications (emails, announcements, internal updates, outreach materials)
- Support marketing and engagement campaigns tied to TOWR-S tools, resources, and events (e.g., SBC, Portal updates)
- Help maintain consistency across messaging, branding, and documentation
Operational & Program Support
- Track communications and outreach tasks, timelines, and deliverables
- Help organize and maintain content libraries, calendars, and reference materials
- Support coordination across teams to ensure follow-ups and action items are completed
Content & Platform Support
- Assist with light content updates for web or internal platforms (e.g., Portal pages, documentation, summaries)
- Help compile metrics or feedback related to outreach, engagement, or usage where applicable
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple workstreams
- Interest in science communications, operations, or program management
- Familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, Slack, and basic project tracking tools
- Bonus: experience or interest in NOAA, weather, satellites, or technical programs
Learning Outcomes
- Exposure to NOAA/NWS operational environments and satellite programs
- Hands-on experience supporting real-world science communications and operations
- Mentorship in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and program execution
Eligibility & Ideal Candidates
This opportunity is open to undergraduate students who have completed at least their sophomore year and graduate students, particularly those pursuing or completing degrees in strategic communications, communications, project management, public affairs, or related fields.
We are especially interested in graduate students and advanced undergraduates who are eager to apply communications and project management skills to satellite imagery, Earth-observing data, and science-to-operations products that support the National Weather Service and partner federal agencies (e.g., NOAA, NASA).

Basic Compensation:
$22.88/hr - $34.28/hr
The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
