This position resides in the Vertical Lift Composite Materials and Processes Lab and supports the evaluation of parts, materials, processes, technology or equipment through research and testing to ensure safety, reliability and adherence to requirements and specifications. Familiarity and experience in composite and adhesives materials fabrication and testing is required. This is a hands-on role and requires the incumbent to manufacture composite and bonded test articles.
Position Responsibilities:
Fabricating composite parts using the following processes: molding, forming, lay-up, co-curing, co-bonding, infusion, repair, surface preparation.
Cut composite plies by hand in accordance with prescribed shape and orientations.
Operating autoclaves, ovens, and heated presses to cure composites
Perform composite lay-up per detailed manufacturing instruction and specifications, consulting with other teammates as needed.
Machining composite test panels and parts using drill press, wet saws, water jet, table saw, band saw, router, sanding (by hand or using sanding equipment)
Use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, scales, micrometers) to check work performed.
Use/operate CNC equipment as required to complete work.
Operate hand/power tools for cutting and trimming, as required.
Troubleshoot and resolve laboratory equipment issues and working with facilities and maintenance personnel to complete repairs.
Coordinates laboratory activities, maintenance, and repairs
Assist in the purchase of new test equipment, fixtures, and tools
Apply routine organic coatings for bonding and corrosion protection purposes.
Use personal protective equipment when using chemicals (e.g., resins, release agents, paints, sealant, solvents) required in the fabrication process.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
6+ years of experience fabricating composite parts or test panels in a lab or production environment
Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 35 pounds frequently within an 8 hour shift
Must be comfortable working with metals, composites, exposure to moving parts, pinch points, sharp cutters and tools
Must be able to stand, twist, and bend within an 8-hour shift
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
High school graduate or GED preferred.
6+ years of experience composite and bonded coupon fabrication and testing
Mechanical testing of composites (tensile, compression, lap shear, etc)
Thermal analysis (TGA, TMA, DSC, Rheometer)
Ability to work weekends and overtime
Experience with improving safety
Typical Education/Experience:
(Level 4) Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years' related work experience, 8 years' related work experience, etc.).
(Level 5) Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+7 years' related work experience, 11 years' related work experience, etc.

Summary pay range:
Level 4: $86,700-117,300
Level 5: $104,550-141450
