Boeing’s BDS Materials & Processes Engineering (M&PE) Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and Measurement Systems team is looking for a Consultant Measurement Engineer to be part of the Measurement Team based out of St. Louis, MO.
The St. Louis M&PE Measurement Systems team delivers integrated measurement, and metrology capabilities across the full product life cycle — from early research and development through production and in-service support. We provide measurement system development, automation, certification, qualification, and deployment services. We create measurement technologies, and develop model-based, automated measurement solutions and analytics that enable real-time part verification, precision assembly, and streamlined manufacturing capabilities. The team supports BDS programs in St. Louis and across the US and supports partner M&PE teams for commercial
programs across the enterprise.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to our team and have a strong desire to work with technical and non-technical audiences. There must be a deep understanding of 3D Measurement principles and proven leadership experience. In addition, expertise in advanced and automated analysis techniques to define performance criteria of measurement systems used to conform tools, major assemblies, parts or processes will be required.
Position Responsibilities:
Define and approve requirements for tools, equipment, materials, parts, and processes used in design, manufacture, and maintenance.
Produce and maintain engineering specifications, deployment documents, and other technical documentation.
Lead development, qualification, and integration of new tools, equipment, materials, parts, processes, and production/computer systems to meet user, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
Evaluate emerging technologies for potential application, transition promising solutions into operational environments.
Plan and manage test, audit, and qualification programs; perform routine and complex tests and audits to verify compliance.
Perform failure and performance analysis of tools, materials, parts, and processes; implement corrective and preventive actions.
Apply project management to meet cost, technical, and schedule objectives; incorporate EHS, LEAN, and Quality principles into materials/processes, R&D, procedures, labs, and workplaces.
Develop, test, deploy, and support measurement and inspection solutions, including automated data-collection and analysis routines for manufacturing applications.
Lead and mentor other measurement engineers, contribute to strategy and work statements, and provide technical consultation across business activities.
Promote standardization across business units and maintain compliance with contractual, regulatory, and quality obligations.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctor of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
9+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
A U.S. Secret Clearance is required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience in aviation/aerospace, including manufacturing or assembly of aircraft.
Hands-on experience with portable and fixed 3D measurement systems (e.g., laser tracker, photogrammetry, laser scanner/LIDAR, structured light, CMMs, laser alignment, portable measurement tools).
Strong metrology and measurement analysis background, including measurement uncertainty calculations and traceability.
Experience with scripting and automation in common COTS 3D measurement post processing software.
Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and applying GD&T to measurement/inspection analysis.
3D modeling experience (CAD) and familiarity with 3D geometry, linear algebra, numerical methods, statistics, and computational geometry.
Programming and software familiarity (e.g., Python, C++, C#, MATLAB, LabVIEW) for automation, data processing, and analysis.
Experience in a leadership position in the measurement/metrology field.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and across geographic locations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong time-management abilities to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Typical Education/Experience:
Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Level 5: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:
Level 4: $136,850-177,100
Level 5: $164,900-213,400
