About the Role
We’re seeking a strategic and data-driven Cloud Economist to lead financial optimization across both cloud and on-prem infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who understands the nuances of hybrid environments, excels in cloud cost modeling, and can translate complex usage data into actionable financial insights—especially using Apptio.
You’ll work closely with engineering and finance teams to ensure our cloud and hosting investments deliver maximum business value.
What You Will Do

Hybrid Cost Optimization: Analyze and optimize spend across public cloud (Azure, AWS) and on-prem environments (VMware, bare metal, etc.).

Apptio Ownership: Manage and enhance Apptio configurations, cost models, and reporting to ensure accurate financial visibility across IT services.

Cloud Financial Strategy: Develop and maintain cost forecasts, ROI models, and business cases for cloud migrations and infrastructure investments.

FinOps Leadership: Champion FinOps practices across teams, including tagging governance, chargeback models, and usage accountability.

Stakeholder Reporting: Build dashboards and executive reports that communicate infrastructure economics clearly and persuasively.

Vendor Analysis: Support contract negotiations and renewals with financial modeling and usage insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with DevOps, infrastructure, and finance teams to align technology decisions with financial goals.
Qualifications You Must Have

Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in cloud economics, IT finance, or infrastructure cost management.

Deep expertise in Apptio (Cost Transparency, Cloudability, or similar modules).

Strong working knowledge of Azure and AWS pricing models, services, and cost optimization strategies.

Solid understanding of on-prem infrastructure cost structures and allocation methods.

Proficiency in data analysis tools (SQL, Excel, Power BI, Qlik).

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications We Prefer

FinOps Certified Practitioner or equivalent experience.

Experience in hybrid cloud environments or large-scale enterprise IT.

Familiarity with TBM (Technology Business Management) frameworks.

Knowledge of automation tools (Python, scripting) for cost reporting and data extraction.

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
