As a Surface Landman, you will manage all surface land activities across operated assets, working closely with operations, regulatory, legal, and external stakeholders to ensure surface access is secured, maintained, and compliant throughout the full lifecycle of company assets.
In this role, you will bring strong Wyoming surface experience and work directly with private landowners, grazing lessees, and federal and state agencies, supported by a solid understanding of drilling, completions, production, and reclamation operations.
You will coordinate with asset teams on development planning for well sites, water use, access roads, pipelines, and electrical infrastructure; negotiate, draft, and administer surface use, damages, access, and road use agreements; and serve as the primary point of contact for surface owners and regulatory agencies.
Additionally, you will support permitting efforts with organizations such as the Wyoming Oil & Gas Conservation Commission, BLM, and State Lands, ensure surface title and curative work is completed, and proactively resolve surface access issues to keep development activities aligned with project schedules.

Responsibilities/Expectations:
- Leads the strategic analysis, interpretation, and preparation of surface related contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and operational standards
- Oversees and guides the review and resolution of title requirements in surface title opinions, providing detailed analysis and expert recommendations
- Manages and direct coordination with brokers, actively driving land acquisition efforts for exploration and development projects
- Monitors and control prospect budgets and expenditures, taking full responsibility for determining surface ownership
- Negotiates and drafts industry agreements
- Prepares and executes critical supporting legal documents for transactions, ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to legal standards
- Other duties as assigned
Education/Years of Experience:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Land Management, Business, or Finance and four (4) years of land-related experience
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Land Management, Business, or Finance and five (5) years of land-related experience
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
- Familiarity with federal surface requirements
- Prior experience supporting operated assets in Wyoming (preferred)
- Proficiency in land systems, GIS, Microsoft Office Application and PC skills
- Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely and efficient completion of tasks in a dynamic work environment
- Willingness to travel to various locations within Wyoming
- Achieves results in a performance-driven, team-oriented environment by effectively collaborating with colleagues and contributing to team goals
